Be aware if you have a Ruger 5.56 VT (Varmint Target) model rifle there is a recall and all guns need to be returned to Ruger. Go to Ruger's web site and the problem and procedure for return is explained.

The dealer in the Midwest I bought the gun from just called. Apparently Ruger is tracking down all the guns with problems.

What is the problem? Other that the put too slow a twist barrel on them!

Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

This what I found

WHY WE ARE RECALLING THESE RIFLES
We have determined that the disconnector in the two-stage trigger system on our SR-556VT™ modern sporting rifles was not properly heat treated by a vendor and that the disconnector can wear prematurely. This, in turn, can result in an unsafe condition in which the rifle delays firing (there is a delay in firing after the trigger is pulled) or doubles (discharging once when the trigger is pulled and again when the trigger is released). Although no incidents have been reported from the field, this is an important safety issue and we are therefore recalling the rifles.

I called Ruger and by serial number it was determined my gun needed corrected. Ruger sent me a box with prepaid shipping label to return the gun. In less than two weeks it was back with a free 5 shot magazine for my inconvenience. It was handled very professionally by Ruger from start to finish. Sorry to disappoint the Ruger haters out there! Wink
Trigger Finger: It has a 1 in 8 twist. How fast do you want it? They use a 1 in 9 on the collapsible stock versions but a 1 in 8 on the VT.

I was mistaken, I thot the op was referring to the M77 mk2 VT. They have a 1~9" twist last I knew. I wish it was a 1~7 .
Sorry for the confusion.
