I asked last week for opinions on the 6 x 45 vs the 6 mm TCU. I'm thinking now a 257 TCU, anybody have experience with one?
Thanks, Nimrod308

I have used the 6mm, 6.5mm and 7mm TCUs quite a bit, but the .257 TCU is one that never caught on. Die costs could be quite high (though I have not checked that out).

In the quarterbores, I really like the .250 Savage (XP or Encore) and .257 JDJ (Contender). My preference lies in the fact that I use these for central Texas deer, some of the smaller exotic species along with the typical Texas varmints (mainly coyotes). These 2 will drive a 100 grain bullet to nearly 2700 fps and will push an 85 grain Ballistic Tip to 2900 fps. There's simply a little more horsepower here than the .257 TCU can provide. Granted, the TCU is an efficient cartridge, but I prefer the .257 JDJ and .250 Savage, the two of which are basically ballistic twins. I've had superb results on game with them and have no qualms considering 250 yard shots on game if the conditions are right.
