I've used them in a K-Hornet on sage rats and digger squirrels. They did not pencil through, they worked "as advertised."

My experience with them (We have to use lead free here) is that they do expand but that they are not "grenades". The Hornady V max in the same weights is much, much, more explosive on the same animals.

I think your chance meeting was with an idiot who was talking about the old original Barnes X-bullets.

The varmint grenades do well on varmints. Never shot anything with them beyond 200. I really miss the Barnes Varminators.

They were really great bullets at a good price. I bought 1000 40 grainers and 1000 50 grainers as well as the same numbers of 58 and 72 grain 243's when they were discontinued. They still shoot as good as they used to and better than most everything else I've tried but I am partial. I live just a few miles away and have friends that work there. DW

Really? Any small caliber bullet traveling that fast is going to cause violent explosions upon impact. I dont think i know of any bullet that will pensil through it, that is the whole purpose of a varmit rifle is it not? They are Vermin and at put in the crosshairs for a reason. To be stopped in there tracks....

I like my .204 with the 32 gr V-Max, squirrels at 100 yrds turn into a pink mist...

You may be interested to know that hornady has come out with a lead free 30 gr 20 cal ballistic tip that has a much better BC than the VG's and is supposed to be just as explosive as the 32 gr V-max. The 30 gr BC is basically the same as the 32. I believe they have an update on them on their web site

I have not shot any of these Varmint Grenades in my varmint rigs and wondered about the inherent accuracy that may they have?????

Some reports around the gunshops have been that their accuracy potential is dismal at best.

What has been your experience????

I'm shooting the 62gr VG's out of a 6x45mm, 6mm-204 Ruger and a 243 Win and they have proven to be very accurate out of all three. Killed a coyote this weekend with the 6mm-204 running them 3500fps and at 100yrds left a fist sized exit others I have talked to say they get alot of big exits. Called Barne and they said that would be pretty common, I was hopping they would be a little more fur friendly.

After the first shot the rest are just noise

Don’t feel bad. Some of the test loads I fired with them couldn’t print 3 shots on an 8.5” X 11” target at 100 yards using Barnes data. There were loads that would print 4” but over all they were disappointing to say the least. The VG just didn’t work well in this rifle (220 Swift) but I’m going to try them in a 223 next time and see if I can’t get some satisfactory results.

They're bullets, not magic. Some rifles like 'em, some don't.
