What is this rifle? I saw one in 264 Win. Mag. at the gun show this past weekend. I wasn't too interested, at the time, to chat the guy up about the gun, but the more I think about it the more interested I'm getting. It had a beautiful AAA stock but no checkering and the gun was in great shape.

Herters sold a Mauser, and a BSA, one was the U9 and one was the J9. Not sure which was which, but its easy to tell if you see them.

The Herter's J9 was made in Yugoslavia and I strongly suspect that it was made by Zastava and was vitually the same action as today's Mark X/Chas Daly/Rem 798.

Herter also had a short action Mauser designated XK-3 that was made in Germany.

I had an XK-3 in .257 Roberts, and its barrel was anything but "throw away"; but the trigger and bottom metal were in that category.

I've got a herter's j9 in 7mm mag. It's built on a zastava commercial action but the finish is nicer than you see on most of the interarms mk x's etc. It also has a beautiful walnut stock.

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

Herters also made a "XK3", Magnum action on a Spanish commercial 98.

Okay Just out of curiosity how much would a J-9 in good condition be worth?

I think I saw one at Big Bear the other day in 30-06 and it was a good looking rifle.
