Witch bullet is best for deer? The 100gr or the 117gr or maybe the 87gr

FWIW, I prefer the 115 NBT for my 257 WBY; I use the 100 NBT for coyotes and the like. Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

Hornady's 120 HP if your weatherby has a twist to stabilize it.....as some of the early ones don't have a fast enough twist to stabilize this length of bullet. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." The 120 Speer gives me about a 2.5" group at 200 yds. I think that would be alright. The other 257 bullets gave me a much better group at 200 yds.

The 100 grs TSX is simply MADE for the .257 Wby!! You can't drive that bullet fast enough to make it come apart, and it seems to expand readily at .257 Wby speeds even on soft game. Add to that muzzle velocities of 3500-3700 fps, and you are trucking right along... - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... JRO I would suggest you consider the bullet that shoots the best in your rifle. I tried almost every bullet on the market in my 257 Wby and was dissatisfied with the groups. This included the TSX ,Nosler BT & Partition,Hornady spire pts ,Sierra's and Speers. They all produced groups in the 2 to 3 inch range. I finally tried a box of the 120 Hornady HP bullets and was pleasently surprized when the first group went into one ragged hole. I have since used that bullet on antelope and large Manitoba Whitetail and have been very happy. If the TSX or the partition will group in your rifle either will get the job done.

I would avoid the 87 grain, At least on game, I would go for somthing of at least 100 grains. If you can get the 110 grain acubond nosler to shoot in your rifle I bet it would be great. But a 115 T-shock or a partition in any weight would be a good choice. that 115 grain t-shock at 3200 or better would kill anything in the lower 48 prety well I bet. Not my 1st choice for elk but I bet it would do prety well...tj3006 freedom1st

jro I had a 257 WBY for a while. I shot several Texas deer with it. I used factory Weatherby ammo with 120 Nosler Partitions, 100gr Nosler Partitions, and 100gr Hornady SP. Could not really tell any difference in killing power between them. All shots were under 225 yards. If I had to pick I think I would choose the 100gr Nosler Partition so I could take a shot at less than the perfect angle. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Not related to deer... Have found the 257 Weatherby with the Hornady 75 SHP from a 30-inch barrel does wonders on prairie dogs at fifty yards. Under fifty yards, too messy.
