Howdy. My Remington 700, 1970 era varmint weight barrel in .222 has somewhat of a feeding problem. To adjust the trigger, I pulled the action. When I replaced the "filler" metal in the back of the magazine, maybe I did not get it in the right position? Or is there a correct position, as one corner of the filler has the point where the two ends of folded metal meet together. Does it matter whether this is up or down ?? That "filler" as you may know, is a squarish piece of folded steel designed to take up the space behind the small .222 rounds, rather than Remington making a special magazine for this round. In my attempts to load 3 rounds, the 1st and sometimes 2nd round fails to come out of the magazine and jams into the area below the barrel face, then has to be removed and loaded singly. Needless to say, this deforms the nose of bullets where I am trying to get the best possible groups. Yeah, I could load all singly, but I just want it to work properly. Any suggestions on this.? (Moderators, if this belongs in the gunsmith section, please feel free to move) THANKS in advance. Hello, Suggest you dismantle the rifle again, double check to see that the magazine box is fitted squarely with the bottom of the receiver. It may well need to be squeezed tightly at the rear to fit into the space and seated into place at that time. Remingtons are amazingly simple and appear to be somewhat on the "tinny" side, but they are also amazingly accurate and great performers as a rule. The spacer you are referring to would interfere with feeding/function if the entire box is out of alignment. Sure others can give you some guidance if the above does not help. Good Luck. | |||
