While I have this splendid and wonderful Sako 75 chambered in .222Remington, which I use for small game up to beaver and roe deer, somebody told me about a benchrest version of it, the .222 Revenge. It would only take some carving in the existing barrel´s chamber - magazine and such would be just fine as-is.

Too good to be true? Most certainly. The problem is that the guy I talked to knew little else than what I wrote above. Google turned out nothing useful.

Does anyone have any info in this matter?

And a 222Rem Rifle can just as easily be reamed for the 223RemA-I (a 223Reamer won't always completely "clean" the 222 shoulder) or 222RemMag.

and those will accept factory brass (even cabela's carries 222Mag brass)

WITHOUT the expense of loading dies
which for wildcat calibers aren't cheap...

What would you like to achieve with a (presumed) rechambering?? More speed, better accuracy, all of the above?? If you want to keep your current barrel, you are stuck with the case head and twist rate (1:14, presumably).

I personally doubt a Sako 75 with a regular weight barrel and a factory trigger would have much potential for accuracy improvement with another (.222/.223 based, .224 cal) cartridge. The .222 Rem is an amazingly accurate cartridge as it is, and would still be winning BR matches if it had not been for the introduction of the PPCs.

As far as velocity is concerned (if this is what you are after?), unless you are limited by Swedish limitations on the number of guns you can own, I would personally keep my .222 Rem, and consider getting another rifle which would offer you more oomph. A .22-250 springs to mind.

The .222 Rem is just too good a chambering to mess up!! You would regret it if you did, I'm sure.

Well said, Mike.

It's hard to imagine improving on the accuracy of the .222 simply by rechambering. And if the goal is to increase velocity, then any of the standard or more common "improved" chamberings will do nicely. The ".222 Revenge" sounds like someone's proprietary effort to do the same thing differently. There's not a thousandth of an inch difference in potential accuracy between any of the cartridges built on the .222 case head.

It would be a foolish person that tried to improve upon the accuracy of the .222. It has never been done nor will it. The 22 PPC is it's equal but is not superior in any way except velocity. When the long standing 5 shot 100 yard group has been reduced in size, a new King will have been crowned but I don't think that will happen anytime soon. The 222 is King, long live the King! Jim
