Agree. And it says a lot about all the mainstream rifle makers who have dropped the round.

And it may also get quite a few 260's built by custom makers.

Says alot for the 260.

also says a lot for Sherri Gallagher. She probably would have won with any of a dozen different cartridges,

Yeah, think she plans to use a 22 LR next year, and a 30-30 the next, and 45-70.. Smiler

No doubt, the industry has largely abandoned this fine round, meanwhile the 6.5x47 comes out, the Creedmoor, rifles in 6.5-284......Sendero 264 WM....

Surely all the 6.5 users can't be wrong!

And I used my 260 to shoot some goats on the weekend. Worked great Cool.

But I didn't look as classy as she does shooting!

Cheers, Chris

100% agreed! I have been watching and reading about Sherri for some time now. She is a cool cat and her shooting skill is world class. We will be hearing more about her in the future for sure.

and for we regular 260 shooters that have been using the round for years now, since it first came out... dancing

nothing new for us, on the potential of the round..

" using a reduced load with a 107 grain Match King for short range"...for those that always complain about those of us who use reduced loads..I'd really crack up if she was using Blue Dot.....but alas I doubt it..

Congrats to Spec Gallagher! an Army Gal...

If my memory serves me Sherri was the World Long Range Champion several years ago before she joined the Army, so she has been around. The downloaded .260 load she was using was probably comparable to the 6.5 Creedmoor or the 6.5 X 47 Lapua or maybe even downloaded a bit from those. The longer .260 may be a more reliably feeding cartridge so maybe that's why they're using that one. I understand from Emil Praslik that the AMU will allow several more shooters to use a match rifle in the coming years instead of the AR15, breaking with a long standing Army tradition of only using military rifles.

Some shooters probably used the .260 Rem to lose the National HP Championship, too.

Focus People!

target shooting is all about finding the minumum recoiling cartridge that will still keep the bullets hitting the target head on. "downloaded 260".

Fantastic accomplishment by the way.

Many calibers are more than adequate for what she pulled off. IMO there is no "best" cartridge. Go back through time and look what has won F class, BR, 1000 Yrd. standing etc., etc,. To me, it's everything coming together just right. load development, good optics, good barrel, good trigger, good action, the right bullet, the right primer, the right powder, correct trim and O.A.L. just to name a few. Then there is the wind, humidity, altitude etc. The list goes on. Then you need one cool cat at the trigger who knows just when to send the round down range. When all of this comes together and just for that moment, you have a winner. 260, 7mm 308 or whatever!

She won as the best shooter, and happened to be using the 260,

Perhaps a 'better round' is the 6.5x55?

This can be seen in the fact the 1999 British Long-Range Benchrest Championship was won by a Tikka Continental in 6.5x55. Group size was an almost unbelievable 10 rounds into 4.4 inches at 1,000 yards. Anyone looking for an accurate out-of-the-box varmint rifle would do well to consider a Tikka.

Or you can get a Savage that won the combined and super aggregate (Continental) 800/900/1000K and still holds the National title of 148-4 at 1000 yards. Oh and not to mention sweeping the 600 yard F T/R at the same time...Smiler All rifles, right out of the box... clap

What Bill and Cliff said!! And for Bartshe and Vapodog........."read it and weep"! .........and this coming from GHD!!!....."pastor at the Church of the 25-06 and GHD"!!!!
I cannot figure out why REMINGTON did not promote it more as one of their staple offerings! But then again, how many choices are they chambering in GOD'S CHOSEN CALIBER, the 25-06?? And they completely abandoned the SUPERIOR TO THE 243 Winchester, 6MM REMINGTON! Not to mention the SUPERIOR CASE DESIGN AND ACCURATE 300SAUM in favor of the competitors INFERIOR 300WSM!! The fact that the lady won the event using the lowly 260 Remington does not surprise me. She had no trouble loading for it, she did not get the dog snot beaten out of her shooting it and she obviously has a lot more rounds down THAT barrel than if it was chambered in the 6.5-284!! What is there not to like about the 260 Remington? Obviously the most effective, accurate, easy to shoot and pleasing to own derivative of the 308 parent case!! 243 is over produced and promoted as a "kid's round!" 7-08 can't hang with the 260 at LONG RANGE, 308........popular because the military uses it...............260 BECAUSE IT WORKS!! Flame away Bartshe!! Big Grin Big Grin hahahahaha Charlie (GHD)..............PS: The only reason she didn't use a 25-06 is because there exists a great need for SUPERIOR .257 projectiles for LONG RANGE!! But I know someone is going to chime in here and say there ARE GREAT LONG RANGE projectiles for the 6mm variants, why didn't she use one of them? If she had it would be a 6MM REMINGTON!! Probably using an 87 grain Hornady VMAX!! Astounding little ditty!!!
