Picked up some 60 grain VMAX's today and loaded up some 1x, NS Winchester brass, CCI-BR2 primers, with 34.0 grains of IMR 8208br, COL of 2.435" and proceeded to shoot 2 goups under .3"!! First one was in the .26's and second one was 45 minutes later and was .288". Velocity was 3645 from a 26" barrel, Ruger Target Gray (and I am not a fan of Ruger's!! but this one shoots pretty well! It's other up until this time, favorite load is 33.5 grains of BenchMark under 55 grain Sierra BK.....it's something on the order of 14/14 on groundhogs out to 347......did have a miss at 801 though!!!) I will retest this load! Velocity average for the 10 shots was 3645. This could be a serious 22-250 loading! Maybe all the hype about IMR 8208 wasn't just hype! May try it in the 17FB, 204, 222Mag also! GHD

All, The velocity pointed out here was not a fluke!! Tested again today and the temps running in the mid nineties and the velocitywas pretty much like the initial test.....3676fps for 10 shot average in the 22-250,tested the same powder in the 17 Fireball starting on the low end....18.8 grains behind a 25 grain Hornady VMAX............funny thing about this powder.......in the "Little Guys"( BR's, PPC's, Fireball type cases) the C.U.P. or PSI's will be pretty much the same as the tried and true old powders(BL-C2, 3031, 4198, Re-7) but when it gets stuffed into the medium varminters the pressure skyrockets!! For what we have been shooting for years at 53,000 or 54,000 CUP's now we are at 61000 or 61,500!! Accuracy is there!! A definite different powder!! Maybe as much different as VARGET was when it was brought out a few years ago!! In the Fireball it is slow.........in the 22-250 it is VERY FAST!! More testing needed to take the limits up in the "little guys". More reports later. GHD

Could you give a "guesstimate" on how Snug the Primer Pockets are compared to a new Case? (I'd be more interested in CHE, but I know that tends to get the Trolls fired-up.)

GHD,
Do you have a faster than normal twist in your 22-250?

HC and Cliff, The twist in the Ruger is their standard twist, not a fast twist barrel or custom barrel. And HC the primer pockets were just as snug as new brass after firing, NS, and reseating primers. The 34.0 grain load is the listed maximum for the 22-250 and the 60 grain VMAX. Shot it again tonight BUT backed off to 33.8 grains in 3x NS brass......velocity average for 10......3673fps. Accuracy for 10 shots fired at same target (2 five shot groups) under 1" for the 10 and 7/10 into right at .5". I called two of the shots that opened the group, the third out of the cluster is a "wtf" as I did not detect any difference in chambering of the round, no discernable anomaly in trigger pull or mechanics....just a shot that flew outside the cluster.
Also ran some through the 17 Fireball again at 19.2 grains,(listed maximum loading) new brass, CCI-BR4 primers. 10 shot average velocity was 3817fps and in each group there are 4/5 shots measuring .3" with a flyer opening the group to .6 and .7". This will get tested again. I am pretty sure the powder will be VERY USABLE in the 22-250 and may displace the BENCHMARK that I am fond of in this chambering. The Fireball may be a different story as Accurate 2230 is lights out in this particular rifle with the 25 grain VMAXS. I really want to try this stuff in the 222Mag case! Will get that done shortly! GHD,
Thanks for the info. I've been using the standard H380 for mine but will pick some of this up for loading.
