I would like to start handloading for the 22-250. So far I have only shot factory ammo I would like to try to get the groups a little smaller. What Loads have you used in the 22-250 & gave you the best results. I'm looking for all opinions. Thanks! Rich Jake

I shoot a 22-250AI, and heavy bullets. 60 grain vmax I use 40 grains of H380 averages less than 1/2 inch, 75 grain amax using 42 grains of RL19 will shoot less than 1/2 inch at 200 yards. Use both for varmints with spectular results.
If ya want to save the hides, use a different bullet.

The load I've shot for years mostly for coyote calling is 35grs. of IMR4895 behind any 52-55gr. bullet for 3550-3600fps. Some gun can handle 36grs. but start at 34grs. just to be safe. Call em in close_____Pete
What distance's are you shooting most of the time? What is the barrel twist? I liked 37g. of H380 with a 55g. bullet I now shoot 38.5 to 40g of W760 with a 60g bullet. I havent worked out the load yet because I just go a crono but 38.5 to 40g all shoot in about the same hole.

Thanks for all the replys! The rifle is a Savage model 110C. I know that some of you are now going "oh a savage". Just to let you know it was given to me by my father who maybe shot 1 1/2 boxes of factory ammo through it.
I took it to the range & shot it with 55 grain Spitzer soft points by Remington. The rifle turned in a good 3/4" group at 100 yards with the factory ammo. I will admitt that my brother in law & I adjusted the trigger first.
In any case I figured that I could probably improve on the 3/4" group. I'm looking forward to loading for this cartridge. I'm sure that I will be able to improve on the 3/4" group with some good handloads! I'm probably going to start loading in the 50 - 55 grain range. Rich Jake

Do not let anyone berate you for owning a Savage or besmirch the Savage name. They are not my cup of tea, but I have known too many people who use them straight from the box and shoot groups that will make your jaw drop. They may not be the best looking rifle around, but there are no flies on the Savage when it comes to the accuracy department. Another vote for H380 and bullets from 50 to 55 gr.
My load is a bit of an oddball, but gave the best accuracy in my rifle. It is a Sierra 60gr HP over 40gr Reloader 19 and Fed 210 primer. Not the fastest load but very accurate.
trapdoor, The 52 grainers shoot better in my Rem BDL, and I didn't want a bullet THAT heavy.
Rich Jake, As far as Savages go, THE most accurite unmodified factory rifle I have ever seen anyone shoot was/is a friends Savage SS heavy barrel in 22-250. (I don't know the model number). It just amazes me how well that rifle shot. The throat is shot out now. I don't know how many thousands of rounds went through it.
My most accurate load is Win brass, Hornady 50 gr Vmax,CCI benchrest primer, 35gr IMR4064 not the fastest load but very very accurate (3600 fps) 26 in barrel.
DLS I have never found accuracy a problem with Savage Rifles. I can see why some people talk them down on a couple of models after taking them a part. The trigger pull seems to be a problem with a couple of models. On the Model 110C that is easy adjusted & not a problem at all. Rich Jake

Proven accurate to 500 yards in competition. 1.75" 5 shot group at 500 yards.
Savage 112BVSS-S I always get a kick out of the guys that say that Savages are junk but their scores are lower and their using custom guns that cost much more.
Shoot what you have and enjoy it. I have many different makes of rifles and I never tell someone that what they have is junk, especially if they shoot a higher score.
