Can get a model 7 stock for my son, Rem factory synthetic 65 bucks, a Bell and Carlson 125, Ramline about 60, a youth used wood for 40. Wondering if I should keep my stock unaltered, a pillar bedded deluxe wood stock with nice wood, and alter a cheap wood or perhaps find a way to shorten and attach pad to say a factory stock, OR shorten my stock that I have for my son to use, and then buy a better aftermarket i.e. a Carbelite. Can those B&C Carbelite stocks be 'opened up' to accept a heavier contour barrel, or will I have a 'porous' material exposed after sanding? Anyone know about the quality of these stocks? Thanks.

The Bell and Carlson Carbolite stock I have is not porous. I have a 260 Rem. built on one with a # 4 taper Krieger barrel on it. The channel had to be opened up and it is not porous. There is enough material left that it could be opened up to accept a number 5 taper barrel. Pillar bed the action and you have a very good rig. PaPa 260

I very well might get that as it looks to be the most economical 'good stock' vs twice the price for an HS precision. I could cut down the existing stock for my son, later bedding a new B&C for a full length model. Thanks for the message.
