Barnes makes a 100 grain boattail and a 115 grain flat base TSX bullet. I prefer boattails, but was concerned about 100 grains not being enough bullet weight for lets say a mule deer being the largest animal I would shoot with my Wthby Mag. Opinions? I would not thank twice about shooting deer with a 100gr Barnes or Partition look at the velocity between the two the 100gr and the 115gr the 100gr shoots flatter and has the same if not more energy. I have killed Elk with 100gr Barnes X bullets and the Partitions.

I agree with Joe. To me, the 100 grs TSX is just about ideal for the .257 Wby - if you can get them to shoot. TSX (and X) bullets thrive on speed, and they penetrate surprisingly deep even in lower weights and at high impact velocity. The 100 grs TSX would be my very first choice for a .257 Wby! - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... Have no fear. I used 100 gr. TSX's out of my .257 Weatherby on large Wild Boar(over 250 lbs.) and on a 385 lb. Black Bear last year with excellent results. Lawdog

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Family problems came up that couldn’t be avoided. My favorite load in my .257 Weatherby Mark V is 72.3 gr. of IMR 7828ssc for 3,643 fps. So far nothing hit with it has traveled much over a few feet. Lawdog

I have loaded 115 and 120 grain Nosler partition for years in my .257 Wby, and consider it a knock out deer combo at 3450 fps using RL-22 and Fed 215M primers. One of my grandsons has killed a truck load of deer with that load in Tennessee where they can kill more than one per day. I just got the 100 grain TSX and was impressed with the first shooting at 3628 fps using 70 grains RL-22 and the same primer. The potential seems unlimited. Good shooting. phurley

Amazing how good the 100gr TSX is on game! I got a nice 6X6 bull and one big mulie buck with my 257AI and the Barnes TSX. My opinion is that the TSX is blurring the normal lines of "caliber for game".
