It seems no matter who owns them there's controversy which surrounds them . In this case Justifiably so !. Good example of a SKILL not taught or reinforced. New AR-15 assault rifles for the department $1,000.00 each. Training time $1,000.00 per officer. Picture on front page of the local paper with the officer standing in full view, not using any cover.....and with the magazine in backward!!!! ......PRICELESS!!! . Some things just don't go together !!!.

So the magazine will actaully stay in place when it is in wrong? That's pretty surprising.

The only way to put an AR-15 magazine in backwards is with a hammer.

Well somethings wrong as I own several along with Mags of every variety and NONE of Mine slope in that direction look at the end of the mag. angle is hay wire to boot . I also agree Mags have a track rail which only allows insertion correctly . So WTF is going on with this one ???.

I bet she hasn't handled a AR from the day she was trained if she was trained. Dept most likey makes them carry it with out a mag in it and she got in a hurry and did not know. Most likely no round in the chamber. Piss poor use of cover also. It always amazes me how few officers pick up their weapons between training. I regularly see officers forgetting to take safetys off not remembering where the bolt release or the mag release is. I keep on telling them it doesn't cost any thing to dry firer and paractice theses thing. Actual they get paid to do these things if they take a few minutes to do so on duty. Most Officers are really lucky they never come across real bad guys that know what they are doing because when they do they lose. Most play the odds that it won't happen to them. But in every Dept there are a few study and train and shoot a lot. But remember its day after day after month after year after year that nothing bad happens it is real hard to maintain that winning mind set.

Gee's and a front page photo to boot. Well I had a cousin in law that was a state cop, he got to plain cloths, and he carried a colt Snub nose 38 I guess, that gun he carried for 23 years and never cleaned it once, the poor gun was frozen from rust . How I know this he asked me once about having to go and shoot and needed to get the thing in working order. I spent a week on it, it was in sorry shape, never mind about being able to hit anything. He retired shortly after that. Now I know a cop that well put it this way, you would loose. Very very good pistol shooter, then again he shot dam near every day. I once saw him shoot a deer thru the head that was stuck on some thin ice on a pond. One 9mm round out of a glock, and it was better than 70 yards out. Said that it was a big mistake for the dept to go to these vs the 357's they use to carry. He had is own Colt Python. As I recall he shot quit a few deer with it during hunting season.

abuddy of mine called me one day, saying he hit a deer and it didn't die and couldn't get up. i told him to call the sherrif's dept, they'll come out and dispatch the thing and you'll be able to take it home. in the mean time i headed over to help him load it. when i got there the cop was standing on the shoulder of the road with his hand gun out. i walked up to see where the deer was, it just 20 yrds off the road in the ditch. while i was walking up i witnessed the cop fire several times(at least 6 shots) at the deer. i stopped beside him and asked him why he didn't just walk up to it. he told me he didn't have his boots on and didn't want to walk in the snow..... there was about 4 inches of snow on the ground! he actually emptied his gun on the deer and i saw only two hits!!!!!!....niether one put the deer out. i was pissed for quite a few reasons!. this cop was one of the "highly rated officers" of our sherriff's dept and a vetran of 20+yrs.!.... a waste of skin and my taxes in my eyes.

I've come to realize that just about when you think you've seen it all or know it all Surprise Surprise !! Along comes a situation in which you're in awe of or dumbfounded . A few years back I was at a local range which is sort of open to the public , meaning a friend can bring a friend with a member sort of thing . So I'm last on the line as I'm a lefty . Out of the corner of my eye I see 3 fellows who unload their gear on their respective benches , line weapons down target inspection or changes . One guy has to be instructed what that means !!!. Oh joy and he's closest to me !!!. Upon setting targets and returning I glance at this fellows table Nice AR with all the Goodies man I was jealous must of been $5K setting there . Anyway I'm jawing with a local dept. of Law enforcement a Lieutenant , who is a friend and Ex member of swat . He's got his FN .308 and making real small holes near the center of his targets at 400 meters , Off Hand !. Anyway time to belly back up to the bench. I'm clearing my AR as a precaution ,I always do before resuming fire at a range anyway . I look over and the guy with the trick AR has got the pin pulled broke in half and is trying to load it ??. WTF ??. At first I thought I was mistaken , NO I wasn't !. Sure enough it was open and folded and he was trying to put the clip in it . Range Master ambles down the line and yells CEASE FIRE WEAPONS DOWN !. I mean you could have heard him over a .50 cal ,he was real serious and not smiling . Asking this gentleman just exactly what he was doing , revealed he didn't have a clue as to which end of what was where or why it belonged there . So this guy is pissed humiliated and starts a mouthing session which ends with his AR being confiscated as it turns out it wasn't even his , he borrowed it !!!. . Because of all the shouting swearing and scuffle that ensued YEA A Scuffle broke out that's when the Lieutenant pulled his Glock and made his way down the line in short order . My buddy took it away from him gave him his card and informed him the Owner would need to claim the AR , he also spun that guy around with a thumb lock ! . Bent him over the bench and removed a .45 from his waistband slapped the cuffs on him . Called to have a patrol unit pick him up and resumed shooting after they left . Member was disciplined with a fine too the general fund . I never saw the .45 and I was setting right next to the guy !. Randy later explained ,Doc you weren't wearing a jacket or sweater he was so I assumed for reasons other than warmth and took a chance . Some are worthless some are adequate and then there's those REALLY REALLY GOOD ONES !!!. One just never knows ; Take the Sheriffs local dispatch gal , with in 75 yards with a 9mm .38 .357 or .40 she will make you cry . PS ; She can really make a smiley face on her targets and you can't !. Ex Military brat who learned to make EVERY SHOT COUNT !. If I weren't married ! ,I know who I'd be dating she's got brains looks and skills !!!.

not too long ago some tearful city person hit a deer locally and mashed up the 17million grain Accura legend "bullet" they used didn't kill the deer outright... State trooper shoots it four times, and suprisingly didn't miss... but didn't kill it either. I walk up give them all a withering look fully conveying my belief that they were all a bunch of idiots walked around the deer put my foot on it's neck and cut it's throat, it bled out almost instantly... or explosively if you prefer. All the trooper could say was "that knife is damned sharp... can you sharpen mine for me?" BTW, I kept the deer... damned good eating. AD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day! Those who manage to provoke themselves into other activities have only themselves to blame. *We Band of 45-70er's* 35 year Life Member of the NRA NRA Life Member since 1984

Mag backwards in an AR is not too difficult. Even for a petite lady cop. Especially with an aluminum body mag. Throw in a good dose of adrenaline to boot. No way it would get close to being "seated", but jammed in tightly it will not fall out. Nor be able to shoot anything. It would be interesting to find out who got the mag out. muck

2 or 3 days and nobody ever figured out that there are actually 2 mags there!! Joined together with a little item that lets you have one mag in the rifle and one joined to it so there is nothing more than a short thrust to dump the empty and insert the full!! GHD Groundhog Devastation(GHD)
