Turkey Hunter

I have a .260 Remington in the Ruger compact with a 16.5 inch barrel.

I like it. It is new to me so I have only shot it at the range. I hope to see how it does on deer next weekend.

It shoots well for me. Not great but I think it is due more to me getting used to the rifle. Then again, I dont have 1/2 moa expectations out of a compact, light weight rifle that I am not used to either. It is certianly within MOD (minute of deer) and I hope to get it better than that this summer.

Just bought Ruger .223 Compact and could not get it sighted in today. 10-12" groups at 100 yds. with Federal 69 gr. Match. New Leupold 3x9 Scope on factory supplied rings. Everything tight. Have Remington 700 LTR 20" in .308 with Leupold Scope that will shoot 1 MOA or better at 300-450 yds with 168 gr. BTHP Fed Match. Need help on this one. Have not tried 55 gr. or less loads yet. Believe factory twist is 1 in 12. Will try 55 gr. tomorrow ?

Highspeed,
Your rifles twist is too slow to stabilize the 69gr. bullets try something in the 45-55gr range

I bought one in .243 with the laminated stock and stainless barrell for my son to hunt with.It shoots real well with 40 grains of H-414 and a 95 grain Barnes X.You are right about the trigger, mine was probably 8-10 pounds from the factory but instead of replacing it I had a fellow that knew Ruger triggers well to change the spring and polish it to get it at 2 1/2 pounds.

I had a Ruger Lightweight (very similiar to the Compact) in 223. Accuracy was only fair and it got worse as the barrel heated up. Three quick shots out of a light barrel warms it up quick. Definately not a high volume squirrel rifle.
