I have a custom rifle coming in 240 Gibbs. It's present standard load is 62.5grs of H4831SC with a 75gr moly V-MAX. It has a 30" barrel, and in reading up on the 240 Gibbs, it was created before we had the assortment of slow-burning powders available today. I'm wondering if anyone loads this caliber (or similar 6mm-06, 240 Wby, etc) with Rel 25, Retumbo, or H1000? I'm wanting to create a long-range Coyote rig.

Beibs:

I shoot the 6mm-06,28" barrel, and have been using IMR4831/87Hornady HPBT, zeroed @400yds. Vels are 3600-3650. Sorry no experience with the other powders you listed.

Jerry, thanks. I like the 6mm rounds better than the smaller calibers. A little more confidence on windy days.

I have one load only I use in my 26" barreled 240 Gibbs.
A 95 grn nosler ballistic tip and H870. The rifle is throated to seat the bullet out to an OAL of 3.340.
Vel is 3440 fps and on an ohler strain gauge it came out to 61,000 psi. I think it's the only rifle I own I have a one load for everything in!

The load for this one is 3.13 OAL. I'll have to see where that is in relationship to the lands. Many of the 6mm rounds seem to shoot best at .10-.20 into the lands.

Never played with the 240Gibbs. I did have a 240PDK. Pretty much the gibbs plus a couple grains. I used a 40deg little less taper and 280 brass. I only had a 26" and was using Nosler 70 and 80gr. I found I could get higher velocity with Norma MRP and 7828 than I could with RL-25.

Just checking QL using your bullet and a 30 the top powders it suggests are:

Cartridge : .240 Gibbs
Bullet : .243, 75, Hornady V-MAX 22420

Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.130 inch = 79.50 mm
