I may have goofed on this. Starting to reload for my gun. I picked up a Box of 40 grain Noslers for the 204. For powder I grabbed the only 4895 in our local shops. IMR 4895. I am now seeing H4895 listed on the net but little for the IMR. What is the difference? Does Anyone have a load for the IMR 4895 with the 40 grain Noslers? Thanks, Ern

Hi ern, I'm assuming your loading for the .204 ruger? I started at 23.5 grains and started to see presure at 27.0. It didn't shoot well for me. ww cases. ww wsr primers Hope this helps. 338vt

ern-- The starting load for H4895 and IMR4895 are the same. They recommend 26.0 as the starting load. The max load for H4895 is 27.7 gr. and the max load for IMR4895 is 27.8 gr. Both of these min and max loads are for the 40 gr. Hornady V-Max. You should be able to use those loads with the 40 gr. Nosler BT, but work your way up from 27.0 gr. towards the maximum in small increments, like no more than .2 of a grain at a time and constantly look for signs of excessive pressure. I use H4895 with my 32 gr. V-Max load, my 35 gr. FB HP Berger load, and also have a very good load for my 39 gr. Sierra BlitzKings with H4895 too. I am currently using AA2520 with the 40 gr. Nosler BTs, but I have an excellent load worked up for that bullet with H4895 too. Catch ya L8R

The two 4895's are very close to one another. They vary about like two different lots of the same brand of powder are prone to vary. 4895 may or may not be the best powder for your particular application, but having the IMR-version is in no way disadvantageous compared to having the H-version.
