Anyone here have one? Comments? Always wanted a 22 Hornet, have a CZ527 in 6.5 Grendel, but that dang magazine sticks out right where I want to put my hand to carry it. The online auction sites list some around $1500 to $1700, which makes me look again to CZ. I guess they are not imported anymore?

Did not know that Browning offered one, but I do not know anyone who has a Browning rifle. I have two CZs and an Anschutz 22 LR target gun, and a Browning BPS and Cynergy, but no experience of Browning rifles...

I have an Anshutz 1730 Hornet with the heavy stainless barrel. While hefty, it's not too heavy for carrying. Since I primarly use it on the range, it has a Leupold Vari-X ll 6x18x40 with the target knobs.

With factory loads, accuracy runs around 1 inch or slightly less. With good handloads, accuracy normally runs 1/4-3/8 inch at 100 yards. Quite an improvement over factory.

Only complaint is that the magazine is short, especially with sierra 40 grain blitz kings. I load them to the length of the magazine and they are still extremely accurate.

Loading, I use Lee's collect die, small pistol primers, both Lil Gun and Acc. 1680 powder, Blitz kings and Hornady's 35 grain ?v-match?.

I'm well pleased with mine.

I have an Anschutz 1432, which is a target/competition rifle, SS bull barrel, single shot, set trigger outfit. I've had it about 15 years now and it shoots very good. I don't think they make it anymore, and though I have hunted with it there are better models for that, if you find a 1730 they are also nice as Joe says.

The best ticket I've found is Hornady 35gr Vmax ahead of Lil Gun, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

I have only one Browning rifle. It's Huntsman in 22 Hornet. I can say it is THE most accurate out of the box 22 Hornet I've shot. After zeroing the scope/rifle, the next 3 shots fell into a 1/2" group at 100 yards. I felt lucky before if I could get 3 shots inside 1" at 100 yards with a Hornet.
One of the best features of the Browning is its balance; one of the best balancing rifles I currently own.
I also have a Win 54 and Ruger 77 in 22 Hornet, and neither one shoots as well as the Huntsman.
I've never owned a CZ or an Anschutz, so I can't compare the Huntsman to either of them.
IIRC, I paid around $550-$600 for the Huntsman.

Here's the Lil Beastie that started my slide over the Abyss into "small caliber madness" shocker.
This is a 1730 Meister Grade and it is truly another class act. Has a safety those that Hate CZ's would probably hate as well but it doesn't bother me any more than CZ's does, which is to say it doesn't. As mentioned above it seems all Hornet magazines are cut to short for the 40 grain V-MAX's or 40 grain BlitzKings which I consider the best bullets out there for the Hornet, K-Hornet and others. As a by product of that I just load em out long and shoot single shot.
As to accuracy I will only say that my wife (who is a great shooter) on a decent day for conditions at the range shot 3 5 shot groups with that rifle the largest of which was a .38 and the smallest of which, (still have it on my wall Big Grin ) was a .266 center to center. Anchutz rifles are indeed shooters.

By the way Roy Bertalotto back east will mill off the bottom metal off your CZ 527 Hornet and shorten the magazine to 3 shots and all for what I last heard was $65.00. Takes the "ugly magazine" argument away from em Smiler. They shoot like crazy too.

I have had a 1730 HB for 8-10 years. It is extremely accurate, about 5/8" five shot, 100 yard groups. It's scoped with a Leupold 4-12X A/O
The guys mentioning that the 40 grain plastic tipped bullets won't go through the magazine are spot on.
I shoot 40 grain Berger HPs which do go through the magazine just fine. I am developing a load for the Midway dog town 34 grain HP, it's a lot cheaper than the Bergers. It seems to be close to the Berger in accuracy, but I have not shot any PDs with it yet.
At any rate I am a huge fan of the Anschutz 1730 hornets.
I also tried Ruger 77 22 Hornets prior to the Anschutz. They were very poor accuracy wise.

i used to have an anchutz hornet. i was pretty much a fool to ever sending it down the road. the browning is a really nice little piece if you can find one, they are pretty scarce (no you can't have mine) if you can find a mod 82 kimber (the original one) they are really nice, as is the browning lowall, i like the cz's but don't care much for the clip hanging down. had 2 or 3 rugers, but they ended up on the trading block. sometimes you can find a nice little martini cadet in hornet, that's the one that really trips my trigger. there was one ruger #1 in the classifieds a few days ago, but that seems to be an oversized gun for the hornet.

The Anschutz is nice, although the action is more of an adapted rimfire action than one designed for a small centerfire. The action is adequate, but does have something of a "rimfire feel" to it.

For somewhat less money you can find a used Kimber (of Oregon) M82, or if you don't need a repeater, a Cooper might be the ticket. A used Sako 78 is also a possibility. But if you don't mind paying the freight, there are certainly no flies on the Anschutz.

We all have our opinions and that's what makes this site function so with that in mind I have to say that Stonecreek I sure don't agree with the rimfire feel on an Anschutz Model 54 like the one I posted a pic of. The 64 Model maybe Smiler.
