Hornady still makes them, but not for long I hear.I just bought 500 to set back for my 6.5-54-55-57 and Creedmoor I pray for mud on my boots the day I die... Go see the nights of Africa.....

Never used the Hornady 160. The 129 was my light bullet load. Sorry to hear they will possibly discontinue the 160. I have to work the loads again anyway. My 160 Sierra and 129 Hor loads were worked up in a '96. Ah, well an excuse to go to the 160 Woodleigh and/or 156 Oryx

Paul, Well, Pal you missed out; the 6.5mm 160 gr. Hornday Round Nose was a really great bullet in the 6.5x57 & (6.5x57R) and the 6.5x55 Swede. Since disappeared from the Hornady Line-Up. Penetration was unbelievable and while the Drop-in-their-Tracks didn't outnumber those who took a nose-dive, topple or coupla wobbley steps prior to expiring; it was a great bullet that obviously no one wants to continue to purchase 'cept for the Niche shooters. The speedier lighweights in 120-140 grain range receive all the current glory. Sad in passing but that's Life-in-the-Fastlane. Cheers, Number 10

What happened? The damned greedy ass bean counters decided they weren't making enough money. That's what happened. Sierra dropped my favorite 7MM bullet, the 170 gr. round nose years ago. When I asked if they ever planned to make any more, I got a semi-snotty, "Well maybe if enough people ask for it?" I told them I was asking for them. Guess they just don't give a shit anymore. Hornady is no different than any other company.....they can make product people want or make product people don't want and their sales tell them what folks want and don't want. You'd make the same decision if you was in their shoes! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." All is not lost! Graf's has some Hornadys in inventory, including blemished 160s at $17.99 per 100. Unblemished are full price; $36.00 a box. The blemishing is discoloration, not physical defects. If you want either go now 'cause when they're gone that's the end of it. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

Wow, are you taking a break from rioting down on Wall Street?? You do understand that for a company to stay in business and keep stock holders and employees happy, they need to make a profit. Just look at all the greedy bastards that have stopped making buggy whips and button-up shoes. Moral of the story is if you find a bullet/brass/primer/etc that you like, you'd be wise to lay in a supply. Aim for the exit hole

Sorry Paul, but this is an example of why it disappeared due to lack of sales according to their bean counters.... Hornady use to have 129 and 140 grain RNs in 6.5 mm...I'd sure like those in my 260s and 6.5 x 55, & 6.5 x 57 rifles... the Sierra 160 and the Sierra 170 RN in 7mm disappeared from their manufacturing schedule 5 or 6 years ago... not enough people buy RN bullets anymore... they are slowly disappearing from the market from all the majors.... every seems to think they need these new trendy spendy bullets with all of these fancy names anymore... meanwhile those of us that have the love for these RN bullets, quietly hoard them... and set in a lifetime supply of them for our hunting needs... for us older guys that means maybe a box or two..

I tried the 160 protected point once and they would not stabilize in my CZ. Of course mine is a 1 in 9" twist. If I want to go heavy, I need a round nose or semi-point like the Mega.

The Lapua Mega shoots accurately in my CZ as well. So does the Norma 6.5 heavy. KB ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Yip //////////////////////////////////////////////// Paul, You are right - that was a great bullet. The trouble was, it did not sell. When we made a run, it would take us years to sell it and that is taking up valuable floor space and capital. If a bullet does not pay for itself, then we have to let it go. As proof of this, we discontinued that bullet at the beginning of 2005 and did not sell the last of them until mid-2006. That was 5 1/2 years ago and we still have people that are just now noticing. I am sorry, we loved all those SSP bullets, but they just did not sell. We needed that money and floor space for faster turning bullets. We hung onto them longer than we probably should have, but we were hoping people would discover how great they were and buy more. It just did not happen.
