Hello. Can anybody tell if the 257 Weatherby is concidered as a "barrel -burner", or is'nt it too bad??

Hi 458, Any caliber that is as overbore as the 257 is will tend to erode throats more quickly than "milder" calibers, ones that are more balanced from powder capacity to bore size. I've had mine since '81 and if you choose to use it as I do, as a big game rifle you will probably not see the end of it's barrel life. That is provided that you don't do TOO much load testing. As a varminter, maybe some time down the road you may show a decrease in performance.

Yes indeed! It will wear out a barrel pretty quickly - but the results on deer & smaller are exceptional. Velocity does have its place with longer ranges and light game. I have .308 Win barrels which are still accurate at 5000+ rounds, but the .257 Wby didn't go nearly that long, about 1500 before accuracy started really dropping off. Mighty fun to get there though! I'm with M700- 1500 for the best accuracy in the 2 I've worked with. About to go for my third-grins "GET TO THE HILL" Dog
