I'm thinking I'd like to install a suppressor on my mini 14. I want one that is quick attach/detach. Anybody got any experience/ideas?

Gemtech has the quick detach capability. Problem is at the Mini 14 end. You will probably have to saw off the front sight as I don't believe that there is enough room to install the threads. Keep me posted on how you get it to work!

I'd get an AR for that. Using a mini there will be accuracy and technical issues you don't need to have.

That said AAC or Surefire are the 5.56mm cans to have.

The new Mini 14 tactical models already have 1/2X28 threads on the barrel so you'll be good to go there. If you're planning on using a Ranch model you can get the guy that threads it to turn the sight radious back also so you can move sight back.

I really like the Mini 14 but agree with Ryan, the AR would be a much better platform for this.

IMO, .223 cans don't really impress me anyway. They do quieten it down a little but it's still a very loud report because of the sonic crack of the bullet. I have one but very rarely use it these days now the novelty has worn off.

Same with any caliber rifle that shoot at high velocity. To get the most one has to shoot subsonic.

Exactly. It's very quiet if I load subsonic but subsonic .223's are sort of anemic. I just didn't think it through well enough and have a small amount of buyer's regret from the purchase. In hindsight I wish I would have invested the cash in a .45, 9mm or .308 can. Just something that'll run subsonic but still carry enough energy to be useful.

I also own a .22lr can and love it. Oneday I'd like to buy another can. Right now the 300 Blackout looks very appealing.

I have a couple Mini's, AR's, and a bolt gun in .223 but no cans as the performance of a subsonic .223 doesn't impress me much.

What I am impressed with, at least in theory, is a .458 SOCOM with a can. If I hadn't run into a rash of vehicle repairs I'd already have one.

I'm gonna try the Gemtech. They say I can mount their QD can without removing the front sight. I'll let everyone know how it works in a few months once I get all the paperwork and mounting done.
PS - My dealer was very negative towards SureFire. He said their products are good but their business practices leave a lot to be desired and he preferred not to do business with them.
