How heavy a bullet will a 1 in 12 twist stabilize in a 22-250? Thanks.

Greenhill's formula says 0.6" long and in .224" that is in the ballpark of 40-50 grains.
The high speed of the 22-250 will ad stability so even bullets longer than .6" will stabilize just fine. Mine absolutly love 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip and Hornady V-MAX 55 grain wich both is about .82" long.

Hornady 60 gn V Max requires 1 in 12 according to the box . I had a 1 in 12 Swift which would stabilise the 60 grainers that I tried (60gn Hornady #2275).
Got a feeling the 69 gn Nosler might be ok too . Check their website .

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

The standard twist for the 22-250 is 1-14".
This twist will shoot a 55.0 gr bullet with outstanding accuray.

The 1-12 will go to about 62.0gr bullets. The Greenhill formula is not really the greatest yardstick to calculate twist. It's 150 multiplier greatly over stabilizes a bullet.

By going to a heavier bullet with more twist you are giving up speed and flatter trajectoryand most likely accuracy.

And if you want to turn the 22-250 into a deer rifle, a 55gr bullet will do just fine.

My 22-250 shoots 60 grain bullets just fine both of Hornady's versions and the HP is kinda long. This rifle has a 1 in 14 inch twist.

The smith that put my rifle together 1-14" told me that it will shoot 60.0 gr just fine. I never used them. Had one load with 55gr bullets
and never changed it.

My 22-250 has a 1 in 14 twist and I even shoot the 70 bullets accurately.

waveMy 22 Varminter(22-250) 1-14 twist, killed a fair number of mule deer with Fred Barnes' 70 gr original.Your 1-12 twist should handle these heavier bullets just fine.

Today at the range my cousin and his varmint 22-250 Ruger shot some really surprising groups with 60 gr. barrier bullets. I had been trying to talk him out of these bullets to use in my 12bvss-s .223. I told him he just might as well give them to me as they wouldn't shoot in his 22-250. After he did his thing to the target he did give me a hundred for a cup of coffee. Said he'd just use up the 800 plus he had left. boohooroger
