Howdy! I just got a Win. Model 70 25-06 and was wondering if anyone has any bullets and/or powders they think perform exceptionally well. I will mainly be using it for coyotes. Thanks.

had a few 25/06's that i used for g-hogs. try an 87 grainer with H4831. I used as much as 59.5 in the one gun. the other liked 58.4. As always start low and work up. But it seems to me accuracy comes at near max load in the guns that i've had or loaded for. Anything worth doing is worth doing right the first time.

You should have fun with the 25-06. It is a fun caliber, for sure. In my own 25-06 I shoot the 75 grain Hornady V-Max bullet for coyotes. I use a standard primer and 57 grains of IMR 4831. In my rifle this gives about 3570 fps and groups of a half inch. Although I do sometimes just shoot coyotes with the same load that I use for deer, antelope, wild hogs, etc. This consists of a standard large rifle primer, 54 grains of IMR 4831, and the 100 grain Nosler Partition. This load gives about 3400 fps in my rifle and shoots about 3/4 inch groups. I shot a coyote with the 100 grain Nosler load last spring that we measured at 522 yards with a laser range finder. Work up to these loads from a few grains below on the powder charge. Good luck, R F R Flowers

Thanks for the responses. I've had lots of fun developing loads for my .223. This is just another toy I've to play with!

I liked liberal doses of IMR 4831 and the Speer 100 hollow point, using a CCi mag primer for G-hogs. This load blew day light all the way through. I've a question who makes a relatively tough 115 to 120 grain bullet for the 25-06? Speer 87gr spitzers backed up with either Reloader 22 or IMR 4064. Just don't shoot'em close, it'll make them change direction real quick. Enjoy the quarter bore. I believe in life, liberty, and pursuit of the S.O.B.'s that threaten them.

In response to arkypete, there are several reasonably tough .257 caliber bullets on the market in the 115-120 grain range. Nosler makes the Partition bullet in both a 115 and a 120 grain version. They both work well and are pretty tough bullets. Having said that, I have shot a fair number of wild hogs and a couple of antelope with the 115 grain Nolser Ballistic Tip and have never recovered one yet, all complete pass throughs and dead animals. Sierra also makes a 120 grain HPBT that is reported to have a heavier jacket than any of their other .257 caliber bullets. I have also shot several wild hogs with these and they worked just fine. Again, I have never recovered one. And though I have never shot any, I know that Barnes makes a 115 grain X-bullet in .257 caliber. That is reported to be a tough bullet, I just have not tried them. 120 grain Nosler Partitions with 49 grains of IMR 4350. I get a chronographed muzzle velocity of 3008 FPS.

Hornady has a 120 grain hp that is designed for big game. Barnes has a 110 and 115 Triple Shock and Swift has a Scirocco coming soon in .257. These are not varmint bullets. Fast Ed Measure your manhood not by success, but by significance.

great round for deer, lopes or yotes. My load for deer is 58.5 grns rel 22/215m primer topped with a 100grn tsx or 101 groove bullet. either load is capable of 1/2" @ 3450fps. Steve Ps. works great on hogs-all with exits

I have a heap of good loads for my 25'06, the only fly in the ointment is that I have a 25" gain twist barrel, and my velocities are about 75 to 100fps faster than most everyone else seems to get. 75gr. V-Max's with a top load of Varget and a CCI 250, velocity is about 3700fps. 85gr. Nosler Bal Tip's, using IMR 4831, CCI250, 3700fps. 100gr. Nosler Partition's, RL22, CCI250, 3300fps 100gr. Barnes TSX's, RL22, CCI250, 3340fps. 115gr Nosler Partitions, RL22, CCI250, 3220fps. I left out the powder charge weights intentionally, because they are waaay oover book specs and I would never let someone try these outside of my rifle. I do have one buudy driving 100gr. Barnes X BT's that are moly coated, at 34oo and change, agin RL22 is his powder, 26" Ruger #1 Good luck
