I have two Anschutz 1730 22 hornets. Both are very accurate.
I’ve had a kimber 82, and a Browning A bolt, both were accurate.
And I’ve had a Ruger 77, and a Ruger 1B, both had marginal accuracy.

For modern rifles, it seems to me the CZ is the best choice.

I would say cooper and CZ. Ruger, maybe 50/50 chance of getting a good one.

On a Ruger, your chance for a good one ought to be better than 50/50 cause I’m zero for three. Seems I’m weeding out the bad ones.

The CZ's always seem to be accurate. I have owned the regular and FS in 22 Hornet. Both shot great with the proper ammo.

Among currently produced rifles the CZ is probably your best bet for out-of-the-box accuracy at an affordable price. It's a shame that you have to mount the scope way too high, the magazine protrudes unnecessarily, and the safety is a hazard due to its working backwards.

If you don't mind spending the money the Anschutz will almost certainly be accurate.

As comments indicate, Ruger 77/22H's vary. The later the production the better the chance of getting one that shoots. I have a friend with a stainless HB model that shoots excellent groups.

In used guns the Kimber 82 will be pricey but shoots. The Sako 78's are mostly good, but probably not a bargain. But the Brno ZKW 465 with its double set triggers and miniature Mauser action is the cat's whiskers when it comes to accuracy (too bad it also suffers from the backward safety and too-high mounting of its latter-day iteration, the CZ 527.) It will also be pricey.

I have had a Browning for many years. It is deadly accurate as in 3 shots in one big hole accurate.

Mine is a Ruger M77 Sporter, and a buddy has the same rifle. Both are about 25-28 years old.

In factory condition, with factory ammo, they were solid 2" shooters.

We changed to a Timney spring and sear kit, and the groups dropped measurably.

Handloading helped a bunch as well, and when I found Lilgun powder, they both became MOA, or slightly better.

With a Hornet, little changes, like 0.2grs of powder, have a large influence on accuracy.

Fun cartridge and rifle.

I'll second this! Mine is especially accurate with a 45 grain bullet over 10 grains of Lil Gun.

Not a bad choice. If you don't mind investing a little more money in it there are a couple of gunsmiths who specialize in thinning the unnecessarily thick root of the CZ bolt handle so that you can get the scope down where your eye is. I think one of them also may have a mod to make the magazine sit flush with the bottom metal.

New production 527's come with a redesigned handle that offers more clearance. You can purchase these and retrofit an older model as well.

To me the Ruger is the neatest ever, but its design sucks, a barrel that floats in the action and that's just the beginning of a failed product..Few shoot well has been my observation..A clip model L series Sako rules in 22 Hornet..

The L-46 clip model Sako is the best ever, comes in Hornet, Bee, 222 Rem best I recall, and its the best hands down..costly however..

My experience with dozens of 22 Hornets is that it is about the finickiest round there is. Rifles as well as ammo. I recommend avoiding a Ruger in any flavor. If you find a Ruger .22 Hornet that shoots, you are a lucky man.

I concur that the CZ is the way to go in today's rifles unless you want to drop some bank on an Anschutz

The difference in how different ammo shoots in any given .22 Hornet is often amazing. Same with reloads.

Some things to try if you are struggling to get a good load for your Hornet: go to a SP primer instead of SR primer; try a BR primer; powders AA 1680 and #9 have often given best results; if .223 bullets won't group, you can find Sierra .224" bullets, those have solved accuracy problems in some rifles. Some have gone so far as to turn the barrel in and recut a minimal chamber.

A handy, accurate .22 Hornet is a wonderful thing. Go into it understanding that you might have to work at it. Start with a CZ.

Good shooting!

Good to know!

Now, how about getting that backward safety to reversed?

I could’ve snapped up the coolest 527 a little over a year ago that had the coolest peep that was NECG (I think) which mounted to the existing CZ base. It was a good deal. I left to get cash (how I prefer to pay), got busy and it was gone the next week when I remembered to go back

I had my old Winchester model 54 with a 10x Lyman Super Spot out last weekend. It was hell on the badgers, rock chucks and ground squirrels.

Is wrought now by a coward few,
For hireling traitor's wages.

Some very early cars had the clutch on the right and the brake on the left. It's better for everyone to adopt and adapt to a standard than to have random examples of the non-standard floating around at random.
