I have 3 CZ527's and couldn't be happier with all of them. I have a Lux, a Premium (American style stock with a higher grade of finish) And the new varmint model. All are highly accurate with their individual reloads. I really like the set trigger, helps my bench accuracy. For shooting prairie dogs I would recommend the Varmint, just because of the heavy barrel for prolonged shooting. If you want a light walking rifle the American style stock feels better to me for a scope. Hope this helps......Smallbore ------------------

Ben, while the fit and finish of these rifles is a bit utilitarian, they work very well and the accuracy is very good. I've never heard of anyone that couldn't get one to shoot. I have a 527 American that has been fitted with a Remington 17 take off barrel and is now a 17 Ackley Hornet. It shot great as a Hornet, then a K-Hornet. I also have the new Varmint model which I set back the barrel on and rechambered to 221 Fireball. Very nice rifle. The best part is I live in Cheyenne too and you are welcome to call me if you would like to take a look at these rigs....... Dan C

I have a 527 in 7.62X39. Nicely made rifle but the throat (according to Clymer) is made to European standards and is .315 inch long. I am copying Ruger and rebarreling to .30 with US throat and plan to use Nosler BT 125 grain .30 bullets which are supposed to expand at Russian Short velocities.

My oldest son has three CZ, one a 527. I like them so well I ordered the 527 carbine in 7.62 X 39. I originally ordered it to play with but I'm thinking about rebarreling to 6.5 X 39R. The older I get the more important weight and handiness become. It seems to me that a 6 pound rifle 39 inches long with a mini Mauser action that will move a 125 gr .264 Nosler 2600 fps would be an ideal 200 yd Texas whitetail rifle. As one of the other guys said I've never heard of a CZ that you couldn't get to shoot.

I own three CZ rifles, 22 rimfire, 22 hornet and heavy barrel model 550 308. All three are as accurate as any shooter could hope for. They shoot fantastic so if your inclined to purchase one buy it.

Bob Mehaffey I was think about doing the same thing as far as having my 7.62x39 rebarreled to 6.5x39. Who are you going to get to do the work? Have you seen any load data on this cartridge? Is the 6.5x39 improved like the PPC's or left as is? As far as the rifle shooting I'm having problems with mine. Shot #2 is away from shot #1 about 4 or 5" then shot "3 is back with #1. I'm thinking I have a bedding problem.

Ben, I have a cz 527 in .22 hornet, and am happy with it. Good value for money, and once more the thing really shoots for a light rifle, 11 grains of win 296 with a 45 grain sierra (seated to 1.71)and remington primer if anyone is interested. Reason I had to mention the load was that it took a lot of time to discover the right combiination. Turns out it had a preference for remington primers. I also have a cz .416 and a brno (cz) model 2 .22 rimfire (Aussie icon as far as rifles go)all shoot great. Also went and purchased a marlin .22 mag and wish to god I had bought the cz .22 mag Get that cz .222 you will be happy with it. There good value for money, and shoot as well as rifles twice there price. D ------------------ [This message has been edited by PC (edited 12-05-2001).]

Dan U, I'm working a contract in Mexico and my wife just bought the 527 for me for Christmas so I haven't even seen it, much less shot it. I have a 1917 Enfield sporterized that did the same thing and it was a bedding problem. Regarding the 6.5 X 39-on another site a guy told me he built one on a mini Mauser action with a 22" Shilen barrel and was only able to get 2370 fps using 120 gr Sierras. If I could get 2300 out of a 125 gr Nosler using a 20" bbl I would have it built. The 125 gr 6.5 will fly better than the 125 gr 7.62 and will add some effective range for Texas white tails. Besides that a less than 6 lb rifle 40" long with very little recoil will be a fun gun. If I'm happy with it I may try the same rifle in 6 mm X 39 or 6 mm X 45. CZ tells me they have quit making the 7.62 X 39 in the 527. Regarding your 2nd shot flyer my son just bought his 4th CZ-this one a 550 in 6.5 X 55. He had to adjust a little creep out of the trigger but is getting 1" three shot groups. I think these rifles are the best buy today. I'm talking to a 'smith I heard about on this site about a big 450 on the CZ Safari grade. Let me know if you learn any more regarding the 6.5 X 39 ballistics.

Dan U, Rereading your posting I see I didn't answer all your questions. Other than what I told you I know nothing more about the ballistics. I don't know if its improved like the PPC or not. I've got the question posted on several sites but no answers yet. Seems like not many of us are interested in this round. I found it on qqalityammunitation but they said no info available-check back later. As far as who will do the work-I have been dealing with an old guy in Hurst Texas but haven't made a decision yet. Keep me posted.

Bob Mahaffey, Thanks for the quick reply to my questions. I didn't see your other post until after I posted my questions, sorry about that. I plan on checking out the 6.5x39, as much as I can anyway. I'll keep you posted on what I find out. Thanks again.
