a beautifull custom rifle chamberd for the 6.5X57. Its built on a yougo mauser , and it has a beautifull wooden stock.
It does,nt get much use, but it is an excelent rifle.
I am thinking of having the chamber reamed for a 6.5X284 and having the 26 inch barrel turned back just far enough so that the old barrel markings are on the bottom so only the new ones show.
I would expect a pret decent increas in velocity, and I would think make the rifle a bit easier to sell , should I choose to do so.
Dies and brass for the 6.5X284 are easy to come by, and I could sell the 75 or so facotry head stamped 6.5X57 brass & dies, for the price of the 6.5X284 Dies, I would think.
Anysee a problem I am over looking ?

Might be an issue with the rechamber without setting the barrel back a bit. The 6.5X57 is longer than the 6.5X284. Also could be problems with the magazine and feed rails, as the 6.5X284 is larger in diameter. In looking at the current Hornady manual, not much of a differance in velocity between the two with heavy hunting bullets. I have a Steyr in 6.5X57 and love the round, one of the most accurate rifles I have owned.

TJ,

why would you let such a great caliber go, and make one that doesn't feed well, without losts of magazine work... has shorter barrel life and gives you about 100 fps more in velocity at most???

6.5 x 57 is my favorite cartridge... but that notwithstanding, if you had to rebore it, why not go with a 6.5/06 instead... same capacity of a 6.5 x 284, without the feed hassles.. and a cartridge easier to get brass for...

or just be benevolent, and send it to Seafire.. I'll hunt with it for you...
