old Through the years this probably has been discussed on AR a half dozen times or more. Yesterday at the range I got a whole new perspective on this topic.
wave after setting up before the shooting started I was making the chit chat rounds. There was a very attractive lady set up and ready to go. As I went by I said hi. What are you shooting today. She said "a 300" . I said Winchester? "no" she replied "Weatherby ". I asked her if she didn't find the recoil objectionable? That's when the conversation got interesting.
Her name is Madleine Kay. She let me know that she hunted and was comfortable with rifles as large as the .416.and with hand gus up to the.454!! A number of my buddies gathered round to listen as she related some of her world wide exploits . She had often hunted in Africa scoring on many of the antelopes, a lion and a water buffalo and other game. She hunts Europe,US (48), Canada ,Asia, and Alaska mountains and has done excellent. Among her credits are polar bear, brown bear, most deer species, a number of species of big horn, mountain goats and varmints of many types.
clap She than brought out the fotos of many of her score at the scene.Of interest the brown bears paw was > 1 1/2 times the width of her head. That bear is a full mount at her home along with a plethora of stuffed birds and animals. Her vocation and avocation were Taxidermy.
Madleine fired three shoots from the .330 Weatherby as I watched and that was it. She packed up and was on her way.

This lady had a trim athlete's body and weighs no more than, maybe' 115 lbs. She works out and walks a goodly distance every day. She is strikingly handsome , charming and just a pleasure to talk with. I took her to be about 51 but she floored us all when she proudly told us that she was 65. shocker
Meeting Madleine really made my day.
Roll EyesHer and her husband are taking off for Africa Monday, Laborday.

Talk about a new slant on female fire arms !!! beer

I think' s someone was just smitten. Wink

My wife who although she is younger is the same at 118 lbs. But she just shoots a 270 Model 70 with my Nosler hand load. She doesnt have as much game taking experience but she did drop a big kudu with one shot right in its tracks. I told the PH and tracker yeah don't say it. Mine runs off 25 yards and hers drops right there - that brought a howl of laughter from us.

I thought about getting her a 7-08 but the 270 Winchester works so well I just stay with it.

My wife and daughter both shoot 375 H&H well. My daughter started shooting the H&H when she was about 14 years old. Both have been to Africa, my wife 6 times and she has accounted for a lot of animals.

I am smitten with them as well!

Huh? So bartsche, Then WHO was it? You said it was the jeweler Madeline Kay and then you said it was not. I've met Madeline a number of times and have bought jewelry from her and you have accurately described her. And, she's located in Littlerock, California. Did I miss something from your posts? Big Grin And, to answer the original question: Whatever rifle best fits the woman and in a caliber that she can comfortably and competently handle. It will depend entirely on each woman herself.

My four girls range from 243 to 257 Roberts (and that one quoted me loading specs when I asked her) to a 260 Remington for the youngest.

You know how we go to gunsmiths to get our rifles upgraded?

Women of SCI go to Beverly Hills to get their bodies upgraded.

My wife and I walked through SCI a few years ago and she told me that most of the women I thought were in their 30's or 40's were in their 60s.

I never really got it, then I started seeing a doc on Rodeo Drive in Bev Hills for my upper GI and he shared his office with a plastic surgeon. The face looks young, but the 65 year old hands never lie. Bottox and collegen and other treatments can clean them up and make them beautiful.

My lady doesn't much care for recoil but she is quick to point out that she never feels it when she is shooting an animal. Her rifles are a Merkel K1 in 7x57R and a Rigby in 275. I agree with letting the woman pick what she likes. It is sad to see a man on the range attempting to impress his woman by letting her shoot a hard kicking firearm.

I will never condemn anyone for getting a "tune up" or maintenance done on something beautiful and classy. Of course you have to be careful not to ruin the aesthetics of the original! Big Grin
