Can anyone tell me how long the magazine box is in a model 70 short action? I have a .243 and .308 Model 70 and both have a short action. Thanks for any help.

I believe it's 2.8 inches. Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

Thanks Doc. I tried to measure it as close as I could without actually taking the gun apart, and thats the best I could come up with.

rdb86, I went ahead and measured one of my 243's, and it is 2.85". It would be 3.05" without the magazine block, as that question has come up before, for people looking to rebarrel to other calibers, where seating the bullet out further has advantages.

I have 3 different M70 Classic SS short actions. For each one, I've taken an empty case and seated a plastic tip bullet, such as Nolser BT, to an overall length that just fits completely into the magazine. For all three, the maximum length is right at 2.850" - 2.855" KwM
