Oh just thought I would post this separate from the Blue Dot and 223 post from below.

For a light recoiling 50 to 100 yd load in the 30/06, I have tried and had real good luck with a 30/06 using 5 grains of Blue Dot and a 110 grain bullet. I have not chronographed it, but it is very subsonic.

Accuracy has been excellent in my Browning A Bolt and the recoil is non existant. Almost equal to a 22 mag rimfire.

22 Sept: THIS LOAD HAS NEVER EVER GIVEN ME A PROBLEM. HOWEVER AS IS THE CASE WITH MURPHY'S LAW.... PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING THIS LOAD UNTIL I FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I BELIEVE IT TO BE A PRIMER FAILURE, OR THE PRIMER WAS MAKED AS A MAGNUM, BUT IS IN REALITY NOT ONE.

EITHER THAT OR THE CASE GOT MISSED PUTTING ANY POWDER IN IT.

I HAVE ASKED THE MODERATOR TO DELETE IT UNTIL I CAN GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE REASON FOR THE MISFIRE.

THANKS

I have used Winchester Mag primers in it, strictly since it is not much powder in a big case, and who knows where it is going to be laying when you pull the trigger. A mag primer's spark is going to be big enough and it is a low ignition powder, that it should not matter. ( No scientific proof, just a thought that panned out) I have ever shot it down hill so it is not near the primer and it experienced no delayed ignition or any accuracy problems.

Should work just fine on smaller cases also, with light bullets. It is fast enough that I have not worried about getting bullets stuck in the barrel because the powder did not have enough oomph to get it down the tube.

23 Sept: update: From the suggestion of the moderator;

I have ran down the problem that I experienced on this load. Some primers that were marked magnum rifle at a local store, had the packaging changed by some idiot in the store. Probably an anti hunting idiot. Anyway, I was not the only one that complained about this problem.

IT IS ADVISED THOUGH WITH THIS LOAD INFO TO USE A MAGNUM PRIMER. Large pistol primers will not have enough spark to get the bullet down the barrel and out in some circumstances. made a few more with mag primers and no problem. disassembled the pistol primered ones and will throw out the box,since I do not know which are pistol and which are mag rifle. Unless someone can tell me if there is a visual difference, such as color of the inside cup like on Federal primers.
thannks

SeafireB17G--I do not remember the first jacketed bullet reload I shot. Would think that would be a memorable experience. It wasn't,seemed like the factory stuff I had already been shooting. I remember well the first cast bullets I shot. One load was using 4064 powder and was in the 30-30 velocity range---felt about like a 30-30. Then I shot some using Unique down around 1600 fps and I thought I had a missfire. Almost no recoil and very little blast. If you don't cast,there is some initial set up costs,but once set up,you can really do some cheap shooting.

British, actually it is refering to training new shooters or kids, and a 30/06 is all they have.

Light load won't beat them up.

I am sure you knew that and were cracking a joke, but we do have a few " not so bright" who float thru here, like any board does.
