Hi Guys:

I am looking to buy a Remington Model 700.. Varmint Laminated Stainless Steel Thumb Hole rifle, in 204 Ruger caliber.

I checked the Remington website and can't find this specific rifle listed?

I am told by a distributor that it was a limited edition run of 1 of 500... Any info on this specific rifle would be appreciated. Any ideas what the going price should be?

I read where the new XR100 is coming out, but it is in blue, shorter action and a single shot.

I gotta try this new 204 caliber on some of the jumbo hogs in Trexlertown PA..LOL

Regards.. Jim P.

I have the rifle you are looking for, picked it up in Pittsburg, Ks of all places. I gave right at 600 for it. I also saw one listed on Guns America. I was trying to find out a little info on the XR100 when I called them and they said it was coming in the next day, bet you can guess where I was the next afternoon.

PA HUNTR, GET YOURSELF ONE!!!! More fun than eatin beans!!!! Shoot yourself up a few boxes of factory 32's to get some brass(some 40's too, just to prove to yourself that the 40VMAXS are inferior to the 32's for accurracy!!!!) and then load the brass back up using ACCURATE 2230, ACCURRATE 2520 or H4895 and go have a BLAST!!!! Fast!! EXTREMELY FLAT(the .204 may rival what the 17HMR did for rimfires compared to available loadings!!!) and just plain fun to shoot!!!! Do I like it? YES!!!!! But then again it was derived from a very proven case.......the 222MAG!!!! Anything built off of the 222MAG has been "the cat's meow"!!! ie. 6x47!!! That was until the time Pindell and Palmisano(PPC) brought out the 6PPC!!! But I still think the Remington engineers did a better job!!! Big Grin Wink Big GrinGHD PS: Where is "Trexlertown, PA?"

Hi GHD:

Thats sounds good to me. I went searching on the web last night looking for Hornady's 32 grain & 40 grain 204 Ruger ammo. Midway don't have it in stock yet, and Cabela's only had bulk sales for Remington... what's up with that?

I have been itching to get a 204 ever since they came out. Then I saw this cool Remington VLSSTH but they are HARD to find at the moment.

There is one on the boards in N.J. and I am making a deal with that shop.

Trexlertown PA is a little farming community where I hunt Ground Hogs with many, many fields.

PA, Yeah, it's a shooter, with weather and work being against me so far I've just put about 40 rounds through it. The last four groups were a real nice clover leaf. And the fun part is you can see the hit. I put a nikon 6.5x20 on top to make it a pretty good setup. Even the factory trigger adjusted down to 1.75 pounds very nicely, last couple of Remington 700's I have had wouldn't go below 2.5 pounds. Best of luck finding one.

Hi Guys:

Well I picked up a 204 Ruger in Rem Model 700 in LVSSTH.

Every thing looks great. Had my gunsmith check it out, the throat and rifleing looks fine. He said that he has seen crooked throats on a few Remington Varmint Riles in 700 and wanted to make sure mine was ok.

I am replacing the sling forearm stud to a different design so I can mount my bypod and I am going to have him float the barrel completely. I adjusted the trigger down to 2 lbs, it came from the factory at a crisp 4.1 lb pull.

The thumb hole stock looks and feels great and I ordered 4 boxes of Hornady ammo, both the 32 & 40 grain to start my accuracy tests.

I also ordered a Nikon 4.5 X 14.5 Silver Nicoplex scope to go with the flow with Leupold Mounts.

Maybe I can punch some holes in paper by next weekend.

Jim, I'm a fan of the NIKON 4.5-14's also(use a bunch of them!!!) but there is the new 6-18 Buckmaster(not in silver....just in matte) that gives you a bit more magnification at about the same cost.......(MIDWAY HAS THEM FOR $230.00 this week!!!!!!!! I gave $284.00 and was tickled about 4-5 weeks ago!!!!!!!) I got 3 of them!!! HOWEVER!!!!>>>>> the glass on my .204 is a NIKON Monarch 6.5-20!!! It is not too much glass!!! GHD PS: How the hell do you gwt a "crooked throat"? Did the reamer holder suddenly "loosen up"? ???????? GHD

PAHUNTER, You still ain't told me where Trexlertown is!!! I travel up I-81 to H'burg then take 11-15 North to Williamsport the 220 South to JERSEY SHORE for work!!! The factory stuff is sitting on the shelves everywhere down here!! Most of the shop owners wished they'd never received the Hornady 40 grain stuff!!! The 32 Hornady and 32 Remington seem to be doing abut the same. HOWEVER!!!!! SIERRA has introduced a 32 and a 39 grain BLITZKING!!!! THE 39 Grain SIERRA BK has tripped my trigger!!!! Wish I could find a 1000 or so f them for the next 3 months use!!! GHD

Hi DV:

I don't know how Remington did it, but I saw three heavy weight blued Remington Varmint barrels in his shop that he replaced, because of a crooked throat. I guess he means it's not concentric with the bore.

Trexlertown... You take RT 100 North.... go throught the intersection of Tilghman St & 100, there is PA state Game Lands about 5 miles up the road on the right with some nice big shooting fields. It also depends what is planted there this year..Smiler)

I saw that Nikon deal after I all ready purchased mine.... I think it's to late now, they all ready shipped. I would of bought the 4.5 X 16 if they had it in silver, but all they have is matte finish.

My gunsmith is The Varmint Shop, located in Orefield just off of 309 North. Less Knipe is the owner and just GREAT for varminters, that's really his bag. He also built two of my custom rifles for me. He also builds cutom 1000 yard rifles and such.

I'll let you know how I make out, just got a email from LSB... they are also out of the Hornady 204, redorder coming in, in 10 days...GEEZ...

Hey GHD, I can get you 5 boxes of the Sierra .204 39 grainers. There are no 32's available anywhere. Let me know if you are interested. I would have to have $75.00 for 5 boxes + actual shipping to you. I imagine regular parcel post might be a little less than priority.

Let me know as these will not last long. I still have to order them, so they might be gone anyway.

PAhunter, hope you enjoy the 204 as much as I have. Mine has been a real shooter. Finally found some 40 grainers to try through it.
GHD, would you be interested in some factory seconds from Sierra, let me know.
