It was nice day so I got out a few rifles to shoot a bit. Took the scope of the 7 mm Mauser to put on the 223. My range at home is about 50 yards. Where I can set in the shade. At that range with one load. The federal American Eagle 50 gr HP. It shot into about 1/4 in if I did my job on my wiggly folding plastic table. It hit about 1/4 high. Should be close out to about 215 or so holding right on a woodchuck. Might have to hold high much further out. I got out the 250 savage I built from a Savage 11 a few years back and shot up some old loads I made up. Hornady 90 gr GMX's with R15 pushing around 2850. Anyway it shot into about 1/2 in off my wobbly plastic folding table. Hits 2 inches high at 50 so that puts me right on just shy of 300. I think that will work for deer. I checked the scope on the Marlin 22 while I was playing around. It was shooting way off. Maybe 10 or 11 inches to the left. With a bit of adjustment I got it about 3/4 high at 50 with groups around 3/4 inch. It should do ok at closer range chucks. Sorry did think to get pics.
