Alex,

Talk to the guys at Douglas barrels. They have done a lot of work with the 20 cal. stuff. I don't think they do email, so you may have to call.

http://www.benchrest.com/douglas/chamberings.html

This is from their web site. 20 cal.10 & 12 twist. 20 PPC , 20 BR , 20 TNT (.227)* NOTE: 20 TNT is the same as the 20-17 Rem, 20-250, 20 Tactical,20 VT (.230), 20 VTT (.230), 204 Ruger

Regards,
David

The 1 in 12 has been the most common factory produced twist. Almost all rifles will do very well with the 30, 32, and 35 gr bullets. Some rifles do not do well with the 40 gr. If one wishes for supreme accuracy with the 40 gr or higher (berger does make a 50 gr but recommends a 1 in 9 twist) then a 1 in 10 would be ideal. I know that when I eventually burn out my barrel, my replacement will be a 1 in 10 or 11, as I do prefer the heavier 40 gr bullets. (better splat factor and they buck the wind very well). My personal favorites are the 35 gr bergers and 45 gr hornady soft points for yotes and the 39 gr sierras and the 40 gr noslers for the smaller critters. The 40 gr V-max does not do well out of my VLP (1" at 100). The 32 gr V-max are very accurate as well, but I prefer the heavier bullets for wind drift and launch / splat factor.

I have a 1-12 twist Shilen barrel, and I do not like to shoot full house loads as I find the muzzle blast to be unpleasant to everyone in the neighborhood. Mine will not stabilize 40 gr Vmaxes at low velocities, so I'd recommend a 1-10 twist if you have a choice.

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside
