Does anyone load for the 6.5 x 57 Improved wildcat? This looks like it would be a nice fit in an intermediate length mauser action. I am wondering whether 3000 fps with a 130 grain bullet is attainable with a 21" tube. Thanks, Jordan

Maybe. Loadtech gives a couple loads that make 3000fps at around 65,000. 2900-2950 would be my target. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Maybe. My 22" 6.5 Bob will break 2800 fps with 47 grains of AA 3100 and 129 grain bullets. It is a good citizen's duty to love the country and hate the gubmint.

I'd think you'd need 26" tube to make that number but I might be wrong. RE 19 would be a good place to start. Anything worth doing is worth doing right the first time.

I shoot a 6.5 x 57, but not the AI improved... But 130 grainers at 3,000 is possible....but again, what will 3000 fps, give you more than 2900?? Just use 260 Rem data as a benchmark and work up.... load data for 129 grainers in the 260 are in hornady's load manuals... My 6.5 x 57 is on a Model 70 action and IS long throated to take advantage of the long throat benefits...It actually beats the velocities a friend gets out of his 6.5/06 AI...with lighter bullets and matches it with 140s...all using less powder... 6.5 bullets in the 120 range and above don't need high velocity and will actually work better at lower velocities...because of all those slower 6.5 calibers around the world...

Good comments on the 6.5x57mm. I just started playing with the basic round, and am more than pleased with merely my initial results on whitetails with basic S&B 131 grain factory loads. They knocked down my first deer like a thunderclap! At 3000 fps the results would probably look like a .270 WCF, and that is too much meat damage. LLS
