It has a 26 inch barrel and shoots quite well. It is on consignment at my gunsmiths shop in forest grover oregon. If It does not sell. I might rechamber to 6.5X284. ...tj3006 freedom1st

TJ, does the 6.5x57 benefit much from the 26" bbl? Would it devastate it to cut it down?

Cliff. Its hard to say how much it benifits from the 26 inch tube. I have shot the rifle very little to be honest. I aquired it when i brought a .243 rifle in to my smith to rebarrel to .260. He offerd me a good trade in on the .243 on any rifle in the shop , and I picked this one. I got RCBS dies and RWS brass with it. It shoots quite well. I would say that if you hunt predominatly open spaces the longe tube would be of some bennifit. Also With the long tube a guy could just have the chamber reamed to 6.5X284 , and then the 26 inch tube would really pay off. I have been tempted to do that myself a couple of times. The stock is a little bit long so I think a 22 inch tube might look a little strange. Latly My hankering is for a bolt 7X57 and or a 9.3X62./ The 6.5 would make a nice 7X57 , but I want a 22 inch tube and that stock, witch is very nice does not work with my Idea. So I put it on consignment...tj3006 freedom1st

Simply because the 6.5x57 is my idea of the ideal cartridge, are you sure there are no gains to be had from an 'ideal powder' just as it is, just running it to 'normal' 6.5X284 pressure? On the bright side, someone who buys it will have a fine rifle! I have a 26 inch barreled 303-25 (naturally) with a long stock and have added a 2 1/2 inch suppressor to it and find it to be no handicap at all. (In fact, the suppressor protects the muzzle from dirt or water). Regards 303Guy

I'm sure its a pleasure to shoot with the muzzle blast out there at the end of 26". A lovely classic calibre in a very nice rifle.
