Posted more for bullet evaluation than anything else. The hunting report kinda goes like this: A deer walked in front of a speeding bullet thrown from a .257 Roberts (117gr. SGK, 2825 fps.) This was a 100# Cowhorn Spike in Texas taken at 125 yards. The bullet was delivered just behind the right shoulder exiting just behind the left shoulder. A rib was broken on entry, both lungs and heart were destroyed. The diaphram ruptured and, essentially, the chest cavity was soup. A couple ribs were shattered upon exit, leaving a 2-3" hole on the opposite side. The Buck still ran 35 yards or so despite leaving a blood trail that Stephen King would have been proud of. No, it's not the biggest deer in the woods (100#) and ranges were reasonable (125 yards). Still, it shows comfortably how thoroughly effective something as benign as the .257 Roberts is when it comes to thin-skinned game like deer. Regards, Robert ****************************** H4350! you are right about the .257 roberts, i wish i had one. but i have something real close. the .260 rem.. i found out years ago you dont need a .270 0r .280 or a 30-06 to kill whitetail deer you just need to shoot good. i use a 120 gr sierra S.P at 2920 fps.. one day i will have a .257 bob... cool photos

Yep, the .257 Roberts just plain works on deer, with most any bullet from 100 grains to 120 grains. I always wanted a .257 Roberts and the year my grandson was born I bought one for him, Ruger No, 1-A. After playing with this one for the last fore years I think I will have to buy another one.

Yup, that the Roberts. It may not be flashy, but it reliably gets the job done. I bought one for my daughter's first rifle and she has killed four deer with it so far using 100-grain Noslers. I am building one for myself as well. One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know. - Groucho Marx

Have any of you tried the Ackley improved version? Does it allow for slightly heavier bullets? Frank

The AI version shoots the same bullets as the regular Roberts. It just allows you to send them out the tube slightly faster.

Great pics. It is the bullet!! Not the deliverer of the bullet that is impressive! Been shooting Sierra 117 grain SBT's(Game Kings) for over 30 years in the 25 caliber genre(25-06 and .257 Roberts) and they perform effortlessly and without fail(if you do your part as a rifleman). They perform the same way everytime! None of the "blow up on contact this time and make a complete pass through the next time" as is seen from the plastic tipped, hyper priced, advertised out the ying-yang, johnny come latelys better known as, 'ballistic tips'! Just a common old cup and core bullet that was developed years ago and still come 100/box and accuracy comes with them and killing power in the field is a given!! The SIERRA GAME KINGS deliver whether it's a 25,6.5,.277,.284 or .308! Can't say or recommend them from experience on anything larger or smaller than the ones mentioned. Haven't "BTDT" with them but for the ones mentioned, the GAME KING is the bullet of choice! GHD............PS: The Roberts is a great little round!..........you could have had a 25-06!!
