Last year or so ago, I begin loading for a Anschutz 1730 Hornet. I started using Lil Gun off the bat because it was the powder that seemed to be prefered and I got very good results with it. I tried a couple of other powders with it that I had on hand and did not as good results.

The other week I bought a can of Accurate 1680 and my accuracy has been more consistant with it than Lil gun. With 12.9 grains of 1680, WSP primer, and 40 grain Sierra Blitz Kings, I fired 5 5 shot groups @ 100 yards with each group running at 1/2 inch. Earlier I tried the same load but with WSR primers but the groups were running .6-.75 inch.

In my rifle 1680 seems to be a little more consistant and I know the groups will improve once I get the recently developed creep out of my trigger.

Who else shoots 1680 in their Hornet?

I've shot many rounds with the same load except using the stubby little Speer 40 grain bullet. Its a great load and before lil gun, I figured 1680 or 680 was the go to for the hornet. My rifle was a Ruger walnut that shot in the .4s with that load. With a new barrel and chamber now, I favor 296/50 Rem psp loads.

Joe, for years I've been shooting the AA 1680 and before it the Winchester 680. I learned that the 680 was the only powder which the Kimber of Oregon .218 Bees would shoot worth a hoot. In the Hornet, I shoot a BRNO ZKW (1949 vintage) my most consistant load has been the 46 grain Winchester Hollow Point brought in bulk from Midway. The load about matches factory ammunition in my rifle for speed, but accuracy is better than 1 MOA. Using a full case of the AA 1680 and the Hornady 35 grain V-Max accuracy is many times under 1/2 inch @ 100 yards. But again the problem is velocity, or lack of it. 13.5 grains and a small pistol primer give V = 2584, and a Rem 7 1/2 BR primer 13.0 grains gives 2754 ft/secs. Shooting today with the chronograph and Lil Gun powder was a revalation as to velocity, and accuracy as well. When you it on the correct load, wow! But it is not as consistant as the more typical powders associated with the Hornet. Loads approaching 2800 ft/sec's and 1/2 MOA accuracy with the 46 grain bullet and 13.0 grains of Lil Gun with a CCI 550 small pistol magnum primer in R-P cases. I have read it elsewhere and didn't believe, and thought my loads were faster with the AA 1680. I stand corrected, and apologetic!

I use 1680 also, but in a K Hornet. I have tried all the usual stuff but always go back to 1680. Doesn't matter what bullet or weight, 13.5g of 1680 always works best for me.

I'm on my 5th or 6th 22 Hornet.
[All olads are with a 45 grain bullet]
I loaded 11.5 grains of 4227 for years [1 1/2 inc groups. Tried Accurate 1680 and that didn't work. Have not tried 12.0 grains of LITL GUN yet. My load is 9.7 grains of 2400. I can cover the group with a dime.

13.0gr Lilgun and a 45gr Barnes XLC gets about 2925fps out of my 20" Ruger M77 and sub-MOA, and supposed to have 10K +/- LESS pressure. How can you beat that???

I purchased a 22 k-Hornet last year that came with some handloads. They were marked 13.7grs AA1680 under 35 V-max's w/ Rem 6.5 primers. They shoot awesome. Well I had some Lil'gun on hand and loaded them up with 13.5grs under the 35 v-max using 205 primers. They also shoot very nice but I think the other load groups a little better. Will experiment some more later

My ugly old 1947 M70 prefers AA1680 and a 45gr Sierra. I must admit I haven't tried Lil'Gun and lighter bullets. My barrel is the original .223 bore 16" twist.
