Hi AR members.
I'd like to get a rifle for varmint hunting, but I only know a few things about them.
Please share your experiences with me.

Every advice on brand and caliber is welcome.

Thanx

Need more info on what you plan to hunt. As for calibers I'd go with a 22calor 6mm Centerfire.

Cartridges to consider:
222 rem
223
22-250
22 Br
22 ppc
6 ppc
6 BR
243
6mm Rem.

To name a few.

There are alot to choose from. Need to consider if you reload or not and how mucj you plan on shooting and at what target.

Gabriel, with your somewhat eclectic tastes, I would suggest running a 45-70 (aka 284 WinR) into a 6-284 die and building another Baikal SS.

It would be for prairie dogs, foxes, coyotes, reload of course and a fair amount of shooting.

I'd like to get something already made since people in ND aren't too much into non US rifles, there isn't anybody in my family that i could consult, not that i wouldn't like a custom one.

Another option is the 204. Do you plan on keeping any pelts? If so you want to get a cartridge that is pelt friendly. a 17 rem or 204 would be a good way to go. Personally, I really like a 222 rem, but the 223 is a good round also. These rounds give good barrel life compare to the bigger flame throwers. Also, a 22-250 make a dandy all-around rifle. Do a little research...as you see the options are infinite.

Lastly, if you are interested in a custom chambering a 6mm BR does some amazing things.

6 BR is a great round. Since I shoot Benchrest alot of fellow shooter I know are taking non competitive 6 PPC chambered barrels and rechambering to 6 BR. With 58 grain pills they are pretty devastating on P-Dogs. Move up to a 66-68 grain Match bullet should anchor coyotes with no problem. This is with a 14 twist barrel.

AS for smiths I would recommend any of the good Benchrest smith out there.

Two I can suggest are Dan Dowling (don't have his number right now) or Stan Ware WWW.sgrcustomrifles.com

There are alot more smith to choose from. Go to WWW.benchrest.com to do a search.
