| Leupold VariX III 3.5-10x50 on top of the 223 Zeiss Diavari Z 2.5-10x48 on top the 22-250
The Nikons are good scopes 6.5 power is too high for my liking, hard to hit the coyotes that won't stop and end up in your lap. Also harder to aquire a running target at close range. |

I was just looking at a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44 w/ the IR mildot reticle. I really like it, however is this overkill on a 223? It's mostly used for yotes and other varmints. What's everyone else using on their 223 or varmint rifle? What do you all think about this scope?
Thanks!!
.....I use the Leupold 6.5x20 on a couple of 223/222mags and they work well for my use.....on a auto 223 for jumping and moving work ....the 3.5x10 gives more field of view.......as to the Nikon? I have and use several of their professional cameras and lens but for scopes Leupold still outdoes them to me and this opinion is shared by several fellow shooters.....but Nikon was closing the gap and now Leupold is improving the already great Vari X III's!!!!!.........hth,,good luck and good shooting!! |

| My .223 has a Simmons Whitetail Expedition 4x12x44? with an Adjustable Objective. I sighted in the scope 3 years ago when I put it on my cheap/ugly Rem 700 ADL and the combo has shot sub 1/2" groups with any factory ammo that I have tried. I guess I can live with cheap and ugly!
If I buy a 6mm/.243, I will probably install a scope like yours for the longer range shots that the caliber is capable of. |

| My favorite long-range scope for the 223 is the Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44mm w/ a 4" sunshade.
My favorite all-around scope for the 223 is the Weaver V-10 2-10x50mm. |

| I use a Leupold 6.5X20 on my Remington PSS. I don't consider it overkill at all. The old saying is that if you can't see it, then you sure can't hit it!

| I have 6x18's 4x16's and 6x24s on mine I like the 4x16 the best in the feild the 24s on the range. I find in the feild that when things heat up I can't use the higher powers but for targets they work great. |

| I've got a Simmons Pro50 8-32x44 AO on my Remington VS in 223. I know it's a rather "cheapo" scope, but I've been pleasantly surprised with it's performance. I would not hesitate to go with another at any time.

| Believe it or not, a Tasco Worldclass 3-9x40 sits atop my CZ527in 223. It's not quite as clear as the Leupod that is on my 270, but for all practical purposes, so what? |

| You're gonna get 100 different responses on here accompanied by good justification for each. It strictly depends on what you like and how you intend to use it. Personally, I like the higher powered scopes on varmint rigs. I just recently bought the exact same scope you got, except with the Nikoplex reticle, for my 223 VLS and love it so far. I most likely won't have it up on 20 all the time, but it's nice to know that I can if I'm sighting in on a groundhog at 200yds that is just peeking out of a hole. Granted, if you plan to shoot less than 50 yards at targets/varmints, it isn't the best by any means. But if most of your shots are 100 yds out, I think you're making a good choice. |

| I use the best varmint scope there is, a Burris 6-24x Signature, clarity is outstanding, adjustments are right on, etc. etc. Jay |

| Oh yeah, the Monarch is a nice scope too, field of view isn't as wide as the Burris, but a very good scope nontheless, Jay |

| All the above mentioned scopes will do the job. I would also give SIGHTRON a look, there varmint/tactical scopes have great clarity,1/8 in. adj. and the objective & power adjustments are smooth as silk. I have 2 and wouldn't go back to leupold or nikon. KEN |

| On my CZ 527, I have a 6-20x40 Weaver Grand Slam. It's very nice. On my Savage with a heavy 20-inch barrel, I have a Tasco mil-dot 8-32x. It works well, too. Both guns shot half-inch groups regularly, so I can't complain. |

| I use a Pentax 6x-24xAO Lightseeker on my Savage 10FLP; a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5x-20xAO on my Remington 700VS; a Burris FullField II 3x-9x with Ballistic Plex reticle on my Bushmaster V-Match.

| I have no experience with the scope in question, but I think it IS probably overkill on a .223 Remington.
My .223 Remington wears a 4.5 X 14 Leupold Vari-X III and I would not consider changing it to anything else. It is more than enough scope for the range of the .223 and it is great for those coyotes that wind up in your lap before you know it.
If you were going to shoot prairie dogs or sage rats only, it would be great. However, for predators it is a heck of a lot of scope.

| I have a 4.5 X 14 X 40 Leupold 1" tube tactical scope on mine. It is plenty of scope. Matter of fact if I could only own one scope it would be that one. It has 67 MOA of honest adjustment in it, and at 14X has enough magnification to do do precision work off the bench at 100 and enough to shoot to 1000 yds and beyond with a tappered base. And I don't even need the tappered base to get to 1K with my 6.5 X 284. I don't know of any other 1" tube scope that has that much adjustment. Plus it is crystal clear. I liked it well enough that have one on my 223, 260, and my 308.

| The current 223's wear Leupolds. The AR has a 4.5-14 LR and the LTR is wearing a Leupold Mk4 10X target dot with the 223 cam. |

| Weaver T-6. Has fine cross-hair and dot (measures .2 @ 100 yds.) Dot covers the gophers eye at this range. Other crosshairs mostly cover 1" @ 100 yds., That's why you need a high powered variable to see the gopher. If you get a close range shot at a coyote you have to turn the power down on the variable. The 6x T-6 does it all and especially well coupled with the .222 - .223 class of cartridge! |
