just wondering if any 85 grain bullet, will hold up to the velocity or the impact of a thin skinned whitetail, say for instance a partition or maybe even a 90 grain ballistic tip, any suggestions thanks

I think Nosler still makes an 85 grain 6mm Partition, which would do fine in your 6mm/284. I also think the old solid base Nosler 85 would be okay, but they're hard to find. Barnes X would give excellent terminal performance, provided you were lucky enough to hit the deer with it. They shoot kind of "randomly" in all of my guns, but I haven't tried their XLC coated bullet.

I owned a 6mm-284 for a while. It was a .243 ruger that had been rechambered. It had a heavy 24 inch barrel and here are the notes under the loading data in my copy of hoanady's third edition. CCI 250, 51.0 grains H4831 3/4 inch groups, mild pressure, 100 grain hornady. Complete penetration on 125 pound hog, 70 yards through ribs rear of lungs, liver centerd, diaphram 3" hole, exit 3/4", sent sprawling, runs 25 yards and is finished. Excellent performance. I never used light bullets to hunt with in my 6/284 because I always thought powder capacity was for pushing heavier bullets faster. In my 6mm rem I had excellent results using the 87 grain hornady and the 85 grain sierra on deer pushed to 3200fps.

Been usinng the 95 BT'S with RL15 out of a 15in T/C Encore running about 2900fps, haven't shot anything with it yet still practicing, I'm better with bow @ 40yds than with this thing. Have thought about having a rifle built for this round in it I would most likely shoot partitions.
