<Royce Gladden>6.5x06 legitimized as production rifle?
I heard a rumor recently that a major gun
manufacturer is about to legitimize the
6.5x06 wildcat cartridge by offering it in
a production rifle.
Does anyone know anything concrete about
this or is it just someone's wishful
thinking?

<Gary Rihn>No idea, but just looking at the last few years (6.5-08/now 260 Rem, 338-06, etc) , I wouldn't be surprised. It's a very popular round.

Major CaliberI hate that, they need to save a few wildcats for us to be snobs with, at the hunting camp!

snowmanRWS from Germany made this a factory cartridge almost 2 years ago. Charles Bennke wrote an article in one of the shooting rags about a year ago.

<MontanaMarine>I would like to see it happen. I believe the available 6.5mm bullets are superior to the .257 and .277 bullets in BC and SD. I think it would be superior to the 25/06 and the .270 for just about any application. MM

snowmanThe round that RWS has legitimized is the 6.5 x 64 so it is actually a 6.5/270. The 06 case is only 63 mm long.

the .270 and 30-06 are the same lenght, the use the same headspace guage.

True, almost. Although they may use the same headspace gauge, which measures to a certain datum point on the shoulder, the 270 has a longer neck, creating a longer overall case.
2.540" for the 270 vs 2.494" for the -06.

<dcjs>hi,
even more complicated: the RWS-round is a 6,5x65 (also a rimmed version available), brass can NOT be reformed from '06 cases (too short, less diameter above extractor groove). then there is the 6,5x64 Brenneke (could be reformed from .280 Rem brass, '06 too short) and the 6,5x64, a 40 blown-out cartrige with a very long neck (approx. .350), made from .270 brass.
these are all CIP-certified cartriges, although afaik only the RWS is currently in production.

david
