There has been a lot of talk about the 6.5's lately. Was wondering does anyone have anything on a 6.5 WSM. How would it compare to a 6.5-284 in the accuracy and velocity dept.

Which one would you want or build.

I have built about 10 on three different reamers.
one is actually made to start with an SAM case.
The other two are for the WSM case, one with a short throat (.030") the other with a longer throat (.160"). With equal barrel lengths there is not 60 fps. between the lot.

The most interesting are the ones built on AR-10s
with an anti torque brake, you can watch the bullet strike the target at 200 yards! [Cool]

S1, which wsm pattern did you build from, the 270wsm, original 7wsm or the new length 7wsm which winchester lengthened the shoulder on? Just curious.

I have one built on a Savage WSM action(lefty). Have it set up for 140's exclusively. Has a Lilja 26" tube and I get 3150-3200 for the 140's. Got a few kills with it this year so far. If you are really interested, just ask and I'll post, but most are probably tired of hearing about my gun. A fellow by the handle GRDLDK or similar is the guru of 6.5's and is smarter than I am.

I will ask. Tell us about your gun and how it performed for you this year.

Thanks

I've got 4 kills so far this year. Would have been more as of this morning, but I didn't hunt and slept in for once since September.

First was an antelope doe at 304 yards. Quartered slightly towards me. Impact just behind shoulder bone and low. Ended up in front of the rear leg in the soft tissue. 140 Hornady was recovered. Just a jacket, and lost it before I could weight it.

Second large critter was a Mulie buck at 215 yards with a 140 Partition. Was an uphill quarter away shot on the walk. Impact was again just behind shoulder and exitted center brisket/sternum.

Two other were coyotes. One was with a 140 Hornady at 212 yards on a quarter away shoulder bone. Surface blow up and only a few inches of penetration(didn't skin the stinky SOB, so it's only a guess). There was a large missing hematoma. The second was 259 yards with a 140 Partition. Shot drifted 6" left and impacted behind shoulder in the spine. Pretty much hinged the 'yote.

Will be trying the gun on an Aoudad sheep next month. Should be a better test medium as the are free-range and should be 300+ lbs. Read too many Africa stories and I alway shoot for the front of a should and try to break critters down as if they are Grizzlys. Need to just punch lungs probably. If I an get on a decent hog, I'll try a raking shot with a Partition, if I don't call my new Freedom Arms into action.

Guess I'll post loads as other have helped me out with info on the board. The USUAL APPLIES: my gun, my powder, MY LOADS. These are all HOT loads.

H1000 61.0
RL-25 59.5
Retumbo 65.0
RL-22 56.5

All are for 140 grain bullets
