I have 77 target in .25-06 and I am very happy with it. All I can answer is your question about how it is as a rifle.

I think it is pretty good. My first shots out of mine was .75 inch at a hundred with store bought Hornady 117 gr interlock sp. I reload now and my groups have just gotten better. H4831sc has been a great powder for me. Also imr4831.

As far as comparing it to the Sendero or Ruger1 I can't help you.

I've wanted to pick up one, as it is the only caliber they offer that platform in a long action....

I don't care for the 25/06.. would probably turn the barrel back some and rechamber for a 257 Roberts AI instead...

But I was looking at one to have all of that, and be able to make it switch barrel for different calibers I'd love in a heavy barreled long action with their trigger...

I have VTs in Varmint Calibers ( 22.250 and 223) that I really like...

Some people would probably say I'm crazy but when I picked mine out there was 2 to choose from. The other 1 was done in 257 wby, but I choose the .25-06 because I wasn't reloading yet. I don't regret it though.

If they would have had 1 in 308 in stock I would have got that one. Still don't regret it and this gun can shoot great!

In responce to seafire2:
If you took a 25-06 and make a 257AI out of it wouldn't that be like buying a new Chevrolet truck with a V-8 and taking one plug wire off so it only hit on seven cylinders?

imagine, going into a gunshop in 1979 when rifle silhouette was THE thing to do, and seeing Rugers with a 26" heavy barrels in 280 Remington? I had one, it was a great hunting rifle, and better than I could hold it for silhouettes.

Well that is one way of looking at it...

however, using less powder is appealing, which wouldn't happen on the Chevy V 8 analogy..

Secondly, I for one just don't like the 25/06 as much as I do the Roberts...to each their own..

I respect your opinion. I was poking a little fun at you however I am also a huge 25-06 fan. I own a m77 target that is stock other than glass bedding and muzzle brake and the thing will drive tacks.

The thing I find most interesting about my 77VT (in .243) is that it seems to shoot every load well, no matter what I put in it.

Thanks, Dad, for taking me into the Great Outdoors.

Personaly I think Rugers suck. I've had quite a few, and quite a few sucked. I kept the ones that didn't suck.

But I got to ask, what's the 26 inch barrel going to do for you???? Confused
