Saw a Ferlach made (Sodia) cape gun in 16X6.5X58R this weekend. Asking $800. It needs tightening up and some serious stock work (re-checkering and a chip on the forend and small crack between sideplate and tang) so I'm concerned that the caliber is another negative. Is it available and is it in the 6.5X55 class of effectiveness? Thanks!

does it isa 6.5x58R SAUER ( look as a 25/35 ) ora 6.5/58R Krag ? both are very old cartridges and very uncommum , check first if Bertram make fresh case or if some thing is able to be form in 6.5/58R andthe cost of a set of die to reload good shooting DAN TEC

DAN TEC, Thanks for your reply. Good question! I did not realize that there was more than one 6.5X58R. I did not see the cartridge and gun is simply marked 6.5X58R. I am going to return for a closer inspection once I determine the extent of possible complications. Since it is Austrian made, would it be more likely to be the Sauer version?

Old Western Scrounger lists Bertram 6.5X58R Sauer brass,about$2.25 ea.and dies at $68.75.Norma 9.3X72R brass which can be formed to 6.5X58R Sauer sells for about $1.25 ea. Some references lists bores as small as .260. It is less powerfull than the 25/35 Win. WC
