I have a Winchester model 70 lightweight in .223. It is the pushfeed design, and I believe that the gun was made in the 80's. I just want to know if the gun is valuable due to rarity?

I had a guy tell me once that winchester didn't make too many of these. So, I thought someone here might know about this gun.

The serial number does start with a G.

thanks

You can do a search on Gunbroker they are not common however they are not rare. I have one in .243 and one in 30/06 with a laminate stock.
The 30/06 says "Lightweight" on the barrel the .243 says "Lightweight Carbine".
If you like the one you have enjoy it and shoot it I've checked the market value previously and saw no real difference between them and a sporter.

I have a Featherweight 223, that is push feed from the 1980s vintage also...

great rifle, but its value is not all that much higher than any other Model 70 Featherweight from that era...

I wouldn't sell mine or trade it off anyway...

mine is a real tack driver.......but it don't feed for sour owl poop! I hope yours is better than mine!

I really don't think many of them were made....nor do I think they're in a big demand either!

If anyone offered me $400, they'd own it!

Seafire,
He is talking about a "Lightweight" and I think you are speaking of a "Featherweight".
Vapo,
Both mine feed absolutely perfect, as a matter of fact my 30/06 Lightweight is the slickest operating rifle I own and neither have missed a feed or ejection ever. Mine is my "standard" rifle for everything and I've shot more game with it than any other rifle. I wouldn't sell mine for 4 times what you'd take for yours!
What caliber is yours Vapo?

ray in seattle,

That web sight isn't going to help him. It only covers the pre'64 M70's. He has a later rifle with the 'G' prefix. I do not think there is a list available for the post'64 rifles.
