I'm so stoked.

About a month back my best friend said he and another of my friends told me they ordered and paid for a new Krieger 6.5 MTU barrel for me so I just went sold some stuff to get a custom tactical built.

-Accuracy International 1.5 chassis system stock
-Surgeon 591 short action with integral 20 MOA picatinny rail and recoil lug. Lug was bedded.
-Shilen trigger set to 2 lbs.
-TPS 30mm tactical rings
-Night Force NXS 5.5x22-50 scope with NP-R1 MOA reticle
-Krieger 26" (finished) 1:8.5 SS barrel in MTU contour

I looked around for well known 'smiths and one's who don't have a 6 month+ wait time to even assemble parts such as I have.

Chris Matthews of Long Shot Rifles who rep I've known about for a number of years happened to have some free time and said he could assemble it in a few days time over a few weeks period.

Well, I had all the parts shipped to him or sent them to him myself and the barrel was the last item which arrived at his Garden City, MO shot last Saturday. Well he had it assembled by Wed and it's on it's way. Maybe be here by Christmas. Redding S-type Bushing dies and Lapua cases are enroute. Maybe I'll have it shooting by the new year.

I'll post pics when I can.

I have the 6.5X47 Lapua necked down to a 6X47 Lapua with a 1 in 12 twist for varmints, I absolutely couldn't be more pleased!!
It is outstanding brass.
Let us know how it shoots for ya.

I read an article on the 6.5X47 Lapua when it came out. The author took it to the 100 yard range. First shot was on paper, a little high but good, second shot could not find, third shot same thing, he checked the scope, stock, everything was good, come to find out it was shooting one hole groups! He said he was'nt giving it back he bought it.

I have the 6.5-.284 Lapua and love it, but I would have gone with the 6.5X47 Lapua if it was out at that time instead.

You will love it. My daughter and I both have 6.5x47 Lapua's. I've got 3300+ rounds down mine, she has about 800. I'm in the prosses of rebarreling my back to the same chambering.
Very forgiving round out to 1200-1400 yards.

Here it is on Christmas morning.

Well gang, next to my wife coming home from the hospital on 23 Dec, after 10 days in the hospital, this is my next best present this year.

-Surgeon 591 short action with 5-round Accuracy International detachable magazine
-Accuracy International Chasiss System stock
-KMW enlarged bolt handle
-Shilen trigger set @ 2 lbs
-26" stainless steel Krieger MTU contoured barrel with 1:8.5 twist chambered in 6.5x47 Lapua
-Cerakote action and barrel
-TPS 30 mm aluminum rings
-Nightforce NXS scope, 5.5-22x50mm with NP-R1 MOA based reticle
-Harris 6"-9" swivel head, notched leg bipod

As it sits, 16 lbs

Obviously I need to reset the date stamp on the camera since I had to change the batteries.

Merry Christmas to all.

That looks like it'll be a lot of fun! I've heard a lot of great things about the 6.5X47 Lapua.

Great looking rifle, you are going to love it. Very user friendly chambering. I have one that I really like. Gotta love those 6.5's!

Lapua brass arrived. Total shock! About 2/3 of the 150 cases have dinged necks, like Winchesters.

In my meager experience that's unusual. I say Meager cause my total Lapua experience consists of 600 weight segregated , chamfered, and sized .223 brass that Midway had on sale once (most load ready brass I've ever purchased, "AMAZING" stuff), 500 6BR brass I got to form for a 6MM BR as well as a wildcat I shoot called a .20 Dasher and 300 6.5X47 Lapua I got to form 6X47 Lapua out of. I truly can't remember a dinged neck. If fact I still have a box of 100 6.5X47 Lapua un-worked and in checking through em a bit I didn't see a one. Not gloating mind you, your post just made me curious.
On the bright side a pass through the sizer'll straighten em up and after that it's some real decent brass. Real disappointing though I'd imagine, I know it would be to me. Did they come out of a bulk supply or in Lapua's prepacked boxes of 100?

Montdoug,

I somehow overlooked your reply. I apologize. I think this is a good time to reply. My first batch of 6.5x47 brass came in the 100 pack paper box.

Moving on, I enjoy the 6.5x47 so much I had another, lighter, 6.5x47 recently made up. This time, when I bought 200 new cases they came in the plastic bulk box of 100 each. Surprisingly they also had some dings on the case mouths.

On the first, heavy, 6.5x47, I've got about 950 rounds down the barrel in one year. It's an absolute tack driver. I LOVE it! I took 5th place in the Utah State Sniper Shoot with it back in Sept where we had shooters from 7 Western states. I know where I lost the match to the winner too. The agony of it all is I beat him the prior month in our monthly shoot.

Note to self, clean the action, not the barrel!

No problem! Hope your wife is doing well.
I sure like my 6X47 Lapua but it has an entirely different purpose in life.
Kick his butt in the next competition and all will be forgotten!
Happy new year.
Doug
