Does anyone know the operating pressure of the 6.5 Japanese ? Is there a SAAMI rating for it ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

According to my copy of "The Book of Rifles" (WHB Smith & Joseph E. Smith, copyright 1948, Nat'l Rifle Assoc), the working pressure of the Jap 6.5mm Type 38 cartridge is 38,000 psi.

Since this round has never been loaded in the U.S., it is doubtful that SAAMI has a rating for it. It has been a regular item in NMorma ammo, however, and their load seems to be similar in velocity and bullet weight to the 6.5X54mm Mann. Schoen. An Arisaka in good condition should be able to handle higher pressures than 38,000. I'm certain the 6.5 X .257 wildcat (AKA 6.5X57mm) for which many Arisakas were chambered after WWII were loaded hotter!!
