What am I doing wrong???
I have a Nesika 243 AI with a .270 neck (1-13 twist). Using Lapua brass turned down to .270, the Varget/70grain Nosler load will do a rediculously group at 300 yards. As soon as I go over to any AI load, the grouping is poor. It may be that the gun is a bit more lively and the problem is me, but locked into a good prone position, I can not equal the fireforming load. Incidently, the load I was stated as the best load from the guy who built it is 51grains of VV160 with a 68 Berger MEF.
Where should I start???

Johnny,

If your chamber neck is .270 you will have to turn your brass to .268 to allow the neck to release bullet.

Yep, got that bit, but that seems to be a science in itself.
I'm using a redding .268 bushing and getting the loads to .268 loaded.

Ok.

After fire forming do you neck size only or full length size?

Had similar experience with my .243AI . The 70gn Nosler seemed best at around or a little under 3500FPS .Could not find a node between there and maximum of around 3700FPS .

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

I have no experience with that combination. I've had some AIs that loved the pressure on the very high end and several that didn't allow me to get back to std.

Don't know if you have been to the site.

How does it perform withe the same charge of varget in formed AI brass. If it's still accurate you can discount any forming/brass issues and move on to a different powder. I would suspect that a slower powder might assist.

Thanks all.

I am necksizing only using a .268 bushing.
I will try the Varget route with the Noslers. I have been using VV160 and that seems to fill the case nicely at 51 grains.
I'll try the formed brass with Varget and Noslers.

Neck diameter .270

Loaded round diameter .268

Bushing diameter .265 or .266

For light bullets my .243 AI likes Winchester 760, for heavies, IMR 4064 and Vita Vourhi 550.

For that rifle set up, I would use a .265 or a .266 bushing, as 308Sako suggests.
