Well it seems Cooper Rifles is introducing their short action repeater. Chambering will be in 243, 250 Savage, 260 remington, 7-08 and 308. Will be available in the Classic, Custom Classic and Western Classic. I've been thinking about adding a 250 Savage to my quarterbore line up. Looks like Cooper just granted my wish.

That's exactly what I'd buy, the 250 Savage.
Good luck with the new rifle, and let us know how it performs..
That Cooper Westerner sure turns my wrench...

I'd call that a "medium" action repeater. What I'd like to see is a true short action repeater for the likes of .22 Hornet, .218 Bee, etc.

Stonecreek,
far be it from me to argue with a fellow of your experience and renown.
So with that in mind perhaps I should say, simply, that Cooper Rifles, in the spring of '10 will be offering bolt action repeating rifles chambered in 243, 250 savage, 260 remington, 7mm-08, and 308 win.
Better?

G.W.: Wasn't criticising your use of the term "short action" as that's what most everyone calls their action which is shorter than their "full length action". I was just lamenting that Cooper and practically everyone else ignores the need for a good short, or "mini" action repeater for those small, neat cartriges. Their .308-length action is certainly welcome, whether it's called a short or something else.

Stonecreek,
didn't take it that way at all. In fact I totally agree with you. I have repeaters in 17 fireball, 17 remington and 221 fireball as well as single shots in 17 ackley hornet, 17 hebee, 17 mach iv, 17 rem, 20 vartarg, tac 20 and 22 hornet (most by cooper) I'd love to have some of those in repeaters.
I enjoy your posts. Always appreciate others take on things, as I have been known to be short-sighted and at times a victim of "stinkin thinkin". In fact, if the truth be known, I might have even been making a feeble attempt at humor at your expense.

GW,

How may rifles do you have? I'm fairly new to AR but seems like you don't just have one of everything, you have at least 3 of everything. not that it's a bad thing. Wink

I will take a 250 Savage as well, but, mine needs to be a lefty. I have one lefty Cooper and Cooper is good about their lefty offerings, I hope this will be one.

Would love to have a lefty in this as well. Either a 250 Savage or a 260 Rem.

Thanks for the heads-up.

While considering a Cooper I went ahead a snagged a Savage Model 14 American Classic in a 250. Though I'd love a Cooper, a modern "classic" at less than half the price and with groups like this I don't feel lacking. If you're going the Cooper route consider ordering 250 AI. Smiler
