Hi guys

Just got me a Full Stock in a CZ 527. Sweet looking rifle that I hope will be a good shooter as well.
Anyone have any favorite loads with H335, Benchmark, or 748?
Thanks Greg

I have a Ruger #1V in .223 (1 in 12 twist). Pet load is 28 grains of 748 under a 40 grain V Max with a Rem 7 1/2 primer. Very accurate.

Of the powders you mention, I've only used H-335 and Benchmark. H-335 with about 27 grains of the 335 and Sierra's 40 grain Blitz bullets is VERY accurate. Benchmak didn't perform well, in my rifles, but it may in yours. Many guys get good results with Benchmark, and 748 which I haven't used yet.
One of the very best loads in all of my 223's and a pair of 222 Rem magnums is 26.0 grains of H-4895, 50 grain bullets and Winchester Small Rifle Primers.

Have fun.

26.3 gr h335 and a 55 gr. but be sure to try the 60-63 grain bullets. i've found that most of my 223's prefer them to anything else

Since you are shooting a bolt action rifle with a 1:12 twist, I assume you are sticking to bullets no heavier than 60 grs. I would have to concur with the above about going with the H-335 or H-4895.

Good Hunting,

Bob

My semi-custom 700 loves H335.
I load 40g horn, nos and sierras w/ 28g and 55g sierra hpgk w/ 26.4g. When I do my part, 5 shots end up making one large hole.
Have not chronoed the loads yet, but all pressure indications are good.

I use H-335 (or the surplus equivalent WC 844) almost exclusively in all of my .222 family of cartriges, including .222, .223, and .222 Magnum. It is a great powder for this size case and bore (although I definately DO NOT recommend it in larger cartridges where its burning characteristics get squirrely).

My various .222's and .223's seem to accept somewhat more H-335 than most and do so happily and without apparent excessive pressure. I use up to 27.5 grains of factory H-335 with a 55 grain bullet in a .223. That is somewhat above most "book" recommendations, so start closer to the loads advised above, working up only as pressure indications allow.

I'm hoping to go out tomorrow and burn a whole hatful of H-335 on prairie dogs. One of my friends will be shooting ammunition I've loaded for him in his CZ 527. LOOK OUT FOR THAT DAMN BACKWARDS SAFETY, WHATEVER YOU DO! In fact, if you can avoid using the safety at all by not chambering until you are ready to shoot, this is the best way to handle this serious design flaw in the 527.

Well I had the new 223 out today shooting some of the Win 45gr Varmint factory ammo. Ended up putting a 3-10 Zeiss Conquest on top. Readjusted the set trigger to slightly over 1 lb. Shot off 40 rounds in total and had 3 great groups, and 1 fabulous group. FS

If you can source Vit N133 I can recommend it over Benchmark in mine, 24.8 grains (Vit's accuracy load) under either a 52g A-max, or a 40g Nosler ballistic tip, six rounds all cutting each other @ 100 yards. Tikka M595 1in12 twist. Smiler

I also tried some Vit N-133 in my 223's and it also shot better than Benchmark, with several good 50 caliber bullets.

I use to use 748 but have gone to a straight Benchmark diet. About all I use mine on is ground squirrels and p-dogs and prefer 40 and 50 grain bullets. Personal opinion only but for the heavier bullets I use a .22-250.
Keep us posted where ya end up.

I have tried a lot of powders in 223's with 50 gr. bullets including H335, 748 and Benchmark, and nothing shoots in my rifles like N133. Some where around 25.0 grains in my bolt guns, and between 24.2 and 24.5 in an AR platform.

If I didn't already have 13lbs of 748, 5 lbs of H335 and 4 lbs of Benchmark and 7 lbs of WC735, I'd be all over the idea of trying out the N133. FS

Just so happens I have an unopened 4lb box of Benchmark, thanks Doug, I'll let you know how it goes.

You are going to have a lot of fun with that rifle. Excellent choice if mine is any indication.

.223 CZ527 American
40g Nosler BT set 0.020" off lands
28.0g of AA2460 (use a drop tube)
Winchester brass with cleaned up flash holes
CCI400 primer.

I have these two groups which show how it shoots:

From my first range trip this spring, shot this group with a cold rifle after 3 fouling shots:

Shot this 3 shot group 06-30-2009 from a cold zero checking the zero after removing and replacing the scope:

AA2460 seems to be a bit hard to find here, but it sure shoots this bullet better than any other powder I tried. The load was developed by a good friend in MN who has the sister rifle to mine. It shoots like this in his too.
