I inherited my late brother's rifles: a 243 wssm, and a 300 wsm. I have reloaded for my rifles, (243, 270 wsm, 300 win mag), but I'm hearing the 243 wssm is a nightmare. Should I consider getting rid of the gun, or is reloading for this gun easy enough? I also got his full length X dies for the 243 wssm.

I do not reload a lot, but what I do reload, I try to go by the book to be safe.
Maybe someone who reloads 243 wssm or 300 wsm can give me your thoughts on this.
THANKS !!

racypapa--Welcome to the forum. What town in Texas? San Angelo here. I don't load the .243 wssm--what is it you have heard creates the problem? With proper dies, don't see how it could be any different than the others.

I reload for the 25 WSSM.

No real difference.

The necks tend to be thicker.

Pressure supposedly gets "spiky" at the top end. I don't generally load that high so....not a problem for me.

The only real trouble I had is that I had to adjust the FL sizing dies down lower than any other cartridge I load for. No problems since.

Try http://forums.wssmzone.com/ for some cartridge specific info.

I have no experience with the WSSMs but everything I've heard pertains to feeding not loading of the cartridges.

The WSSM cases are a lot thicker than conventional brass and tend to spring back after sizing. As Phil N alluded to, you need to screw the sizing die down to the point of having a bit of "cam over" on most presses in order to bring case back into spec. You will need a good case lube for the same reasons. I find Hornady Unique Case Lube to fill that bill quite nicely.

Other than that, I find them no more or less difficult to load.

Sir,
Do you reload the 25 wssm for a bolt rifle or an AR type rifle?
