Neighbor has an old Savage 340 bolt gun in .22 Hornet for sale. Bore is excellent. Didn't these homely little guns have a reputation for serious accuracy?

I've had 2 of these in .22 Hornet, and both shot extremely well. In fact, I picked up one of these about the same time I picked up a brand-new Kimber rifle in the same chambering. The Kimber cost nearly 5 times as much but couldn't hold a candle to the old Savage's accuracy. Best loads in the Kimber would put 3 shots into an inch to an inch-and-a-quarter at 100 yards. Both Savage Hornets would keep 5 shots well inside of MOA and were accurate with almost any load. The Kimber was quite finicky..

The trigger on the 340s does take some getting used to, though.

Thanks Bobby. Agree about the trigger.
