Neighbor has an old Savage 340 bolt gun in .22 Hornet for sale. Bore is excellent. Didn't these homely little guns have a reputation for serious accuracy? There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author | ||

I've had 2 of these in .22 Hornet, and both shot extremely well. In fact, I picked up one of these about the same time I picked up a brand-new Kimber rifle in the same chambering. The Kimber cost nearly 5 times as much but couldn't hold a candle to the old Savage's accuracy. Best loads in the Kimber would put 3 shots into an inch to an inch-and-a-quarter at 100 yards. Both Savage Hornets would keep 5 shots well inside of MOA and were accurate with almost any load. The Kimber was quite finicky.. The trigger on the 340s does take some getting used to, though.
